It’s fair to say that since the departure of Michael Carrick, Manchester United’s midfield has been sub-par.

Casemiro and Paul Pogba were big signings that never truly starred, and a Declan Rice-esque player is missing.

The Arsenal midfielder is simply unbelievable; he is the driving force of the team, someone that the Red Devils desperately need.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at a Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS target who could become their very own Rice.

It seems as though a midfield overhaul is set to occur at Old Trafford this summer, with Christian Eriksen and Sofyan Amrabat’s futures unclear.

Casemiro is another household name that could be on the move, with Saudi Arabia looking set to be a likely destination for the Brazilian.

As a result, a replacement must be acquired. Well, according to a report from FootballTransfers earlier this week, Man United are interested in signing Leon Goretzka.

Fortunately for United, Goretzka is one of the Bayern Munich players that will be allowed to leave the club this summer.

It’s said that United are keen to sign a partner for Kobbie Mainoo, who has experience; hence, Goretzka is a potential target.

A bid has even been made for the player according to reports in Spain this weekend, with a £34m offer lodged at the request of Ten Hag.

How Leon Goretzka compares to Declan Rice

For over seven years now, Goretzka has been regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in the Bundesliga.

Even though the 29-year-old hasn’t always been the go-to, first-choice player at the heart of Bayern’s midfield, he’s always had a huge impact on the team.

This was certainly the case last season, with Goretzka making 25 starts in the Bundesliga while also featuring ten times in the Champions League.

Throughout quite a few of those games towards the end of the season, the number eight partnered 20-year-old Aleksandar Pavlovic, which proves he can help guide a young-talented midfielder to success.

Firstly, the pair are true all-rounders on the field, impacting the game at both boxes while also having the ability to play as a number eight or slightly deeper as a number six.

One of the biggest similarities that separates them from other positional peers is that they’ve both proved to be match-winners, scoring goals and also creating for the dangerous attackers.

Just like Rice, Goretzka is an extremely technical player who serves as a fantastic progressive outlet to the side, whether that be by playing passes through the lines or carrying the ball forward with intent.

Important, they are both extremely solid defensively, meaning that the duo lack any true faults in their game, hence why Goretzka in particular has been labelled a “world-class” player by journalist Stefan Bienkowski.

Not only did Karachi Kings romp to their first PSL title at the fifth time of asking, they did so at home, and against arch-rivals Lahore Qalandars.What’s more, it was a boy from Lahore in Babar Azam who proved central to their victory, his sixth consecutive half-century ensuring there would be no jitters on the way to a below-par target. The title was sealed with eight balls and five wickets to spare, with Azam finally ensuring he’d stick around until his captain Imad Wasim knocked off the winning runs.Lahore Qalandars won the toss, and to the surprise of many, opted to bat first. It was the first time a side opted to do so in this year’s playoffs, and, with three of the first four finals won by chasing sides, appeared to fly in the face of history. Moreover, this was a used pitch, and it was evident from the outset that the Qalandars were unsure how it might play. Fakhar Zaman and Tamim Iqbal struggled to keep the runs ticking over, with the dot balls racking up as the pressure mounted.A 68-run opening partnership might appear ostensibly handy, but it isn’t when it takes half the innings to bring it up. Those at St James' Park have reportedly agreed an £800k deal with Jedinstvo Ub and will unveil the 19-year-old defensive midfielder soon, before instantly sending him on loan to the Netherlands or Belgium this summer. Pivas can play both in midfield and at centre-back in a major boost for Howe, as he looks ahead to the future of his squad.

Pivas, meanwhile, will hope to impress on loan next season before arriving to stake a claim for a first-team role.

Still just 19 years old, there's no doubt that Pivas is one for the future rather than a player who will have an instant impact on Howe's side. In a way, his pending arrivals sums up Newcastle's transfer window so far fairly accurately.

Out of the five fresh faces that they've so far welcomed, only Kelly stands out as a player who should be guaranteed a consistent role next season. Of course, that's not to say that Pivas' time won't come, however, having been described as "outstanding" by Magpie Media on X.

Dewsbury-Hall is a player that new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca knows very well from his time at the King Power, and if all goes well in transfer talks, the Italian could be reunited with one of his star players of 2023/2024.

As widely reported, and backed by reliable media sources like Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in ongoing negotiations over a deal for Dewsbury-Hall – despite Brighton originally agreeing a swap deal for the 25-year-old which would have seen Jakub Moder head the other way (Fabrizio Romano).

The west Londoners entered the race with an enquiry this week, and that ultimately hijacked Brighton's deal for Dewsbury-Hall, as Chelsea now look to poach the Englishman for Maresca.

Since then, Chelsea have been attempting to find a middle ground with Leicester and shake hands on an agreement, but it hasn't exactly been straightforward. As reported by BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea had an opening bid rejected for Dewsbury-Hall, which fell short of their £40 million valuation.

Kinsella shares further news on this and their ongoing discussions behind the scenes involving highly rated starlet Cesare Casadei. The reliable reporter claims Chelsea could now offer Casadei in a swap deal to sign Dewsbury-Hall, as they look to sweeten the deal.

The Leicester star, for his part, has turned down Brighton and is open to joining Chelsea, even if he's in no rush to depart his current club. Casadei has been drawn comparisons to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, but it appears Todd Boehly could sacrifice the Italian to get Dewsbury-Hall over the line.

Signed for an initial £12 million from Inter in 2022, Casadei spent the first half of last season on loan at Leicester, before returning to west London and making very brief Chelsea cameos off the bench on 11 occasions.

"He has crazy potential, he is a diamond that is still in the rough on which we must work with care and attention," said Andrea Zanchetta, Inter’s Under-18 coach, on Casadei to the LGI 2020 Almanac.

"If he finds the dimension of him on a technical and tactical level, he is among the best profiles in Italy and not only in his vintage."
