Yet, Leicester could still be a terrifying prospect in attack when moving up a division, even without a focal point present as the lone centre forward, courtesy of Stephy Mavididi's trickery from down the flanks.

The ex-Juventus winger's switch to Leicester has proved to be an ingenious one from the powers that be at the newly promoted club, with his 12 strikes in league action last campaign helping his side comfortably end the season as champions of the second tier.
He would also end up being a creative force for Enzo Maresca's men with six assists registered alongside 11 big chances being created for the likes of Vardy to fire home.
The slick 26-year-old, who was once labelled as a "nightmare to mark" by one of his former Arsenal youth coaches, Steve Leonard, will be itching to go ahead of next season, therefore, hoping he can bamboozle Premier League defenders on the way to his side thriving in the elite division, instead of suffering an instant return back down a league.
Paying a reported £6.4m to land Mavididi's services before a ball was kicked last season has more than paid off, therefore, with the Foxes attacker's value only going up and up since joining, based off his exploits in the Championship, according to Football Transfers.
He's worth even more than Ayew, according to the site, with Mavididi also offering somewhat of a solution to Leicester's striker problem if needs be, having played as a centre-forward previously during his career.

The former Montpellier man isn't a million miles off competing with Ayew's numbers, when you compare side-by-side their output as centre-forwards, but Cooper will want Mavididi to cause havoc down the left flank, with other striker targets also presumably in mind away from the £8m-rated man above.
Ayew could well just offer the newly promoted side some much-needed depth away from being a main option though, as the new Leicester boss goes about constructing a team that he believes can stay up in the top-flight.

As Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill flogged a dispirited and under-resourced England spin attack to all corners, picking off a paltry target of 49 in 7.4 overs and with ten wickets in hand, it might have appeared to any latecomers that India’s dominance in home-spun conditions had been entirely, and predictably, unchallenged.But on the other hand, that final flurry was a perfectly crazy denouement to a match that had been accelerating all the way through like a pair of brawlers tumbling down a flight of stairs – a contest wrapped up, with a vast six over wide long-on from Rohit, only minutes after tea on the second day of action, making the shortest completed Test match since 1935, after 17 wickets had tumbled in the first two sessions of the day, and 30 in the first five all told.In any ordinary contest, any one of the day’s top lines would have sufficed to hold the attention, and lure in the plaudits. England were unequivocally 0 for 2 this time, and even the most masochistic sports fans were pleading for the action to slow down so that they could taste the drama before it was swallowed whole.For a time therefore, Sibley played within himself – assuming that’s not a tautology. But then, suddenly and without warning, he too planted that front dog for a massive wipe across the line at Ashwin. The shot was arguably the correct one – the ball was outside the line of off so lbw wasn’t on. Unfortunately, this was not one that skidded, it bit violently for Pant to cling onto a blinder behind the stumps.Sibley thought he hadn’t hit it, but UltraEdge implied otherwise and he had to go. And as Ben Stokes marched out to join Root, England were still 14 runs shy of parity, with no guarantees that an innings defeat wasn’t still on the cards.Stokes, to his credit, adjusted his approach from the meek surrender that had ended his first-innings effort. With Root watching the ball like a hawk – and surviving a very tight lbw review on 16, after he was deemed to have grazed an inside-edge – Stokes set about disrupting the spinners with his range of aggressive sweeps – conventional and reverse alike. But his nemesis Ashwin wasn’t going to be held back for long, and on 25, another non-spinner skipped into his planted front foot – it was the 11th time Stokes had been dismissed by Ashwin, and it was a body blow for England’s hopes of a 100-plus lead.One over later, and England’s goose was as good as cooked, as Patel sealed his ten-for with another slider into Root’s knee-roll. As mighty as Ollie Pope may one day prove to be at this level, he completed a Test to forget as Ashwin outfoxed him for the second time in the match, pushing another non-spinner across his bows to pluck the off stump. When Archer lined up a sweep that was too full for the stroke, Ashwin was into the 400-club and India were deep into the tail.Leach did not stand on ceremony, with a startling six over long-on off Patel, as he and Foakes tried to chisel something defendable. A two-over foray before the dinner break might, with a bit of luck, have ratcheted up the tension, but instead it dissipated before our eyes as Anderson at point fumbled to get Rohit off the mark, before Root speared four wayward byes past even Foakes’ trusty gloves. And with the jeopardy gone, Rohit and Gill were able to finish the match with an insouciant flourish. Next to none of it had made any sense at all.
Glasgow Rangers summer transfer activity has yet to appease the supporters as Philippe Clement has failed to really build a squad capable of challenging for the title.
Players such as Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande, who both joined permanently this summer, look like superb signings, but aside from that, it feels fairly underwhelming to say the least.
Failing to qualify for the Champions League group phase will impact what money Clement will have to spend between now and the end of the month, but it won’t be much.
Unless a few players are sold sooner rather than later, the Ibrox side may not be able to make another permanent transfer, with Clement having to rely on the squad he currently has.
Several players appear to have no future at the club, with Todd Cantwell one who could be on his way out.
Todd Cantwell’s future is still unclear
Following a semi-decent season in 2023/24 which saw the former Norwich City midfielder score eight goals and grab seven assists in 44 matches, it looked as though Cantwell could emerge as a key player this term under Clement.
The duo took a while to build a positive rapport, yet as the season progressed, the 26-year-old began to play in his favoured number ten role and began to truly showcase his talents.

An injury towards the end of the season disrupted his progress, but with a solid pre-season behind him, it looked as though he could impress from the word go.
That was until Clement spoke to the media following a friendly defeat to Birmingham City last month, bringing up Cantwell and his future, saying: “Todd Cantwell came to my office a while ago. We have a really good relationship and we talked a long time about that. He came a while ago to say he feels ready for another adventure, that he wants another challenge.

“I wanted to give him time also, so that’s why the last couple of weeks I didn’t speak about it. But he came back with the same request.”
After four games of the current season, Cantwell has not been involved in any squad so far, clearly suggesting his time at Ibrox could well and truly be over, just 18 months after he joined.
Given how short Clement is for attacking midfielders, it would be a real shame to sell him, but if the player can command a solid fee, it could help with new signings.
He might not be the only player who could leave, as a Giovanni Van Bronckhorst signing from 2022 might be on his way out of Ibrox…
Rabbi Matondo is attracting interest
According to Football Scotland, Rabbi Matondo is a player who is attracting some attention as the transfer window draws to a close.
Indeed, Leeds United appear to be keen on making a move for the Welsh winger before the end of the month, either on a permanent deal or a loan with an option to buy clause inserted.
With Clement keen to secure some funds between now and the window closing, Matondo must be sold this summer, especially if the price is right.
The winger currently earns £23k-per-week at the Light Blues, which is even more than Cantwell, who is currently taking home around £22k-per-week. With just three substitute appearances between them this term, the Belgian is clearly keen for both to depart in order to raise some much-needed funds.

Despite Matondo arriving in Glasgow with a wealth of talent at his disposal, it hasn’t quite worked out for the former Schalke starlet during his time in Scotland.

Following a season where the club won the Scottish Cup and reached the Europa League final, Van Bronckhorst was determined to bolster his side in the summer of 2022 ahead of the new campaign.
The likes of Antonio Colak, Ridvan Yilmaz, and Tom Lawrence all signed that summer, but it was a deal for winger Matondo which looked like one of the most exciting.

He would certainly add plenty of pace to the attack, while he clearly had a keen eye for goal, having scored ten goals for Cercle Brugge during the 2021/22 season.
Unfortunately, his maiden campaign was a poor one, disrupted by injuries and lack of form, which saw the player make only 28 appearances in all competitions, registering five assists.
It looked as though Michael Beale was ready to move him on last summer, but a solid pre-season gave him some confidence, and he scored his first ever goal for the Light Blues against PSV Eindhoven in a Champions League qualifier at Ibrox. Perhaps he had a future after all.
Indeed, it wasn’t a bad season at all. Considering he started just 12 games all campaign, Matondo netted six times while chipping in with four assists.
His memorable goal against Celtic during the 3-3 draw at Ibrox was voted as the goal of the season by PFA Scotland, showing Matondo at his very best.
After just three brief appearances from the bench so far this term, it is now the right time for the Gers to ruthlessly cash in on the liability to free up funds to further bolster the squad.
There is no doubting his qualities, especially when he is running against tired legs, but his consistency was a problem last term, and this is something which Clement needs to improve upon for this season.
It will be interesting to see just how much the Light Blues will demand for the winger, given that he still has two years left on his current contract at Ibrox.
If a deal could get done quickly, it should give the Belgian coach time to bring in another wide option to replace Matondo.
With Cantwell close to leaving, the Welshman could soon be the next figure close to the exit door at the Gers, as Clement aims to cash in during the final few weeks of the window.

The number of points on offer for a draw in the County Championship has been increased from five to eight, after England’s Test captain Joe Root called for changes in the competition’s regulations to incentivise teams to make games last longer.In the 2019 edition of the County Championship, teams were awarded 16 points for a win, five points for a draw, and up to eight bonus points for runs scored and wickets taken in the first 110 overs of their first innings.In last summer’s Bob Willis Trophy, the number of points for a draw was increased to eight “to help mitigate against the impact of weather in a shortened competition”, according to the ECB, and that change has been extended into the 2021 season, with the Championship due to be played in a revamped conference-style system.Following England’s 3-1 series defeat in India, Root had called for draws to be made “more appealing” in order to help batsmen and bowlers develop the skills required in Test cricket.”They need to find ways of making games last four days, giving spinners the opportunity to bowl and learning to bowl at different stages of the game,” Root said. “They need to learn to hold the game in the first innings if it’s not spinning and things are not in your favour so they can give the seamers some respite. Then they need to be able to attack and to really deal with that pressure of trying to bowl a side out.”It’s not just spin, it’s seam as well, and the batting group. For example, you want guys to come into this environment of Test cricket and have that knowledge of what it’s like to go out in the second innings and know the opposition have 450 on the board. They need to be able to ignore that scoreboard pressure, put it to the back of their mind and get a score, and go beyond another team’s score to make sure you’re massively in the game when it comes to the second innings.”It’s the same with the seamers: you want them to have a range of skills that can exploit flat wickets. Can they change their angles round? Can they go up and down the gears in terms of pace? Have they got a five-over spell in terms of short-pitched bowling?
