QPR fans praise Lee Wallace for moment of quality against Leeds

Lee Wallace made his QPR debut against Leeds on Saturday and he marked it with a brilliant standout moment that has earned him praise from fans.

With the scores still level in the first half, Patrick Bamford was played through on goal and rounded Liam Kelly, only for Wallace to intervene by poking the ball away from the striker with a very well-executed sliding tackle.

The former Rangers man was deployed in a slightly more unfamiliar left-sided centre-back role, but looked solid throughout despite lacking fitness due to not getting much game time so far this season.

With Liam Manning playing well this season, Wallace may have to wait again until he gets another chance to play, though the fact Mark Warburton is yet to find a solution to the team’s defensive problems (28 goals conceded in 15 games) means he could persist with the five-at-the-back formation.

QPR fans have taken time to react to the tackle, and have lavished praise on Wallace for stopping what looked like a certain goal.

Man Utd fans have their fingers crossed over Glazer family report

Could this be the beginning of the end? Manchester United fans have had to put up with the Glazer family for a number of years now, and every time it has looked even remotely likely they could be heading out, it just hasn’t turned to be the case.

Earlier this year, reports had suggested a Saudi Arabian firm were interested in taking over the Red Devils, but that did not transpire in the end. However, it appears United may be saying goodbye to at least one of the Glazers in the near future.

According to The Sun, Kevin Glazer – son of Malcolm who took control of the club 14 years ago – is “set to cash out” of Old Trafford, after documents were recently filed with the USA’s Securities and Exchange Commission in proof of him converting all his B class shares into A class stock.

The report adds the A shares are available to be traded on the New York Stock Exchange, and that the “only conceivable reason is to sell up”. The Sun further notes however that the move does not necessarily mean the prospect of new owners anytime soon for United.

After hearing the news, Red Devils fans flooded to Twitter, and judging by their reaction, there is a definite sense of hope and wilful optimism that this could potentially lead to some massive change at the top.

Check out some of the reaction of United fans below:

Tottenham fans like idea of Roy Keane and Jose Mourinho replacing Pochettino

The future of Mauricio Pochettino is up in the air at the moment with both him and his team looking in despair following a run of one win in seven games.

He admitted himself that he could be out of a job if results don’t pick up soon and that has led to speculation about who could possibly take over, with Rafa Benitez one name some fans are keen on, and Jose Mourinho amongst those linked.

The latter appeals to some fans and after seeing him paired alongside the outspoken Roy Keane on Sky Sports’ coverage of Manchester United vs Liverpool, with the former Republic of Ireland international saying the Red Devils should sign Harry Kane, some fans have imagined the pair working together.

Their no-nonsense attitude and high expectations of players is exactly what some feel the current squad needs, with one fan stating he is tired of the “Mr Nice Guy” approach from Pochettino.

Spurs’ recent downturn in form is a result of players underperforming, in part, and that is why Mourinho is viewed as an ideal replacement, as players who don’t meet his standards often find themselves out of the team, such as Luke Shaw during the Portuguese’s tenure at Old Trafford.

Here are some of the reactions from fans who would like to see a partnership of Mourinho and 48-year-old Keane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk on the right path with 4-4-2 system

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Garry Monk’s reign as Sheffield Wednesday boss extended to a third league game without defeat following their emphatic 4-1 victory over one of his former clubs, Middlesbrough.

The home side actually handed the Owls an early lead through Adam Clayton as his header soared past his own goalkeeper before centre-back Dominic Iorfa towered highest to double the advantage less than a minute later.

Paddy McNair netted one back for Boro, but that wasn’t enough as a goal-laden first half continued on.

Visiting winger Adam Reach fired in from just inside the area before Steven Fletcher picked up his fifth of the season in the 34th minute – surprisingly that would be the last goal of the match but nonetheless, a resounding victory for Monk and his men.

On the Chalkboard

In midweek, the 40-year-old had reverted to a 4-4-2 formation for the first time this season as they welcomed a strong Everton side to Hillsborough in the Carabao Cup.

Now the result might not have been what they wanted as they faced a 2-0 defeat, but they created several chances and even recorded more shots on goal than their Premier League opposition – despite making eight changes too.

Wednesday were far more clinical and ruthless on Saturday, converting all four of their shots on target, with Monk sticking with the formation he often deployed at Birmingham City.

It appears that this system could indeed be the right one to lead the Owls to success this season, they certainly have the strength in depth required to pull it off.

Atdhe Nuhiu partnered Steven Fletcher at the Riverside, and that resulted in a goal and an assist between them – but against different opposition, he also has Sam Winnall to call upon.

Out wide, Monk has a wealth of options with Adam Reach, Jacob Murphy and Kadeem Harris while in the centre, summer arrival Massimo Luongo and Joey Pelupessy offer healthy competition to stand-in skipper Barry Bannan and Sam Hutchinson.

The brainwave to revert to a 4-4-2 formation at just the right time may have been a blessing in disguise as Wednesday moved to just one point of the playoffs.

Everton’s predicted XI against Burnley

Everton’s worrying form in the Premier League continued last Saturday with a defeat at home to Manchester City. The Toffees now sit in 15th, having conceded an alarming 12 goals, whilst netting just six of their own after seven games.

As Marco Silva has a new injury concern to contend with in Theo Walcott, at least one change is guaranteed ahead of the trip to Burnley.

Marco Silva will be hoping he can rack up the goal count and send his side further up the table, as the team now worryingly sits just two points shy of the drop zone.

Here, we predict his starting XI.

Lucas Digne is all but the first name on the teamsheet at the moment. He won Everton’s Player of the Year last season and the former Barcelona man continues to be vital for his side, providing two assists this campaign.

Elsewhere in the defence, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have played every minute thus far, and although the pair have let in 12 goals in seven games, they still remain Silva’s best choices.

At right-back, Seamus Coleman has once again proved his worth claiming an assist against City. The Irishman was desperately unfortunate not to bag the goal himself, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin notching his effort when the ball was millimetres from crossing the line.

The centre of the pitch is where much of Silva’s problems have occurred. Injuries to Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin have left the former Watford boss low on numbers, forcing in Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Frenchman has struggled throughout the season registering a 4/10 rating in the defeat to Sheffield United, and a 5/10 against the champions.

Up top, Everton have alarmingly lacked goals so far, scoring just six – the joint-second least amount in the league. Against Burnley, the likes of Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin should keep their spots, having netted two each so far.

On the other flank, Walcott is not expected to start so soon after a head injury, and although he is expected back in training this week, a start for Bernard is a much better option.

Playing just behind Calvert-Lewin this season has been Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has started every league fixture thus far. Despite registering a personal best of 13 goals last season, the Iceland international has so far provided just the one assist, as Alex Iwobi continues to test him for the no.10 spot.

Kevin Volland is exactly the kind of back-up option Liverpool need

Liverpool will be hoping to gain an advantage during the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, whilst also continuing their fine league performances in the upcoming weeks.

It appears that within the next month or so, those adoring Liverpool fans will have a far clearer picture of whether silverware will be returning to Anfield this summer or not.

With a number of critical games coming up, this will be a massive test for Jurgen Klopp and his players.

As hard as it is to concentrate on anything else, Liverpool must also consider the bigger picture and the fact that they still need to recruit in the summer, whether they win anything or not.

Despite how brilliant they have been, all their title rivals will strengthen in the summer and Liverpool then have to ensure they do as well.

A weakness in the Reds side could arguably be up-front, where they have little in terms of quality back-up for Roberto Firmino.

In a bid to solve that, Liverpool must look at recruiting Bayer Leverkusen forward Kevin Volland.

Volland, (who is valued at £22.5 million on Transfermarkt) has been very consistent for Bayer Leverkusen this season and his side are reaping the rewards because of it.

With Europa League football again in sight, they have Kevin Volland’s goal contribution to thank for that especially, seeing as the German forward has so far accumulated nine goals and ten assists in all competitions.

At 26, Volland is set to reach his prime years in the game and as a versatile back-up in the forward department, playing anywhere from wide to the main man up-front, he would be a fine option for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Wolves’ decision to withdraw Morgan Gibbs-White against Braga proved costly

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Off the Bench series, which places in-game managerial decisions and squad selections under FFC’s microscope.

Wolves succumbed to defeat in their Europa League Group K opener as Braga snatched all three points with a 1-0 victory at Molineux on Thursday night.

A defensive mistake from centre-back Ryan Bennett handed the ball on a plate to Wenderson Galeno, who then charged towards goal before pulling the ball back for Ricardo Horta to smash home past Rui Patricio from the edge of the area.

Thogden ranks every Premier League goalkeeper kit in the video below…

Snapshot

The goal occurred just four minutes after a key substitution from the home side.

With the game becoming increasingly frustrating for Wolves, their boss Nuno Santo needed a creative spark in midfield and turned to Portuguese playmaker Joao Moutinho in the 67th minute as he replaced Morgan Gibbs-White.

Moutinho assisted eight goals in the Premier League last season while the 33-year-old managed half that in the team’s six qualification matches leading to this match.

Off the Bench

In hindsight, it was the wrong decision as the England U21 international was one of the livelier players on the pitch.

Gibbs-White recorded two key passes, three successful dribbles and even drew two fouls, thus resulting in valuable dead-ball opportunities.

The introduction of Moutinho wasn’t the wrong move per se, but certainly, the incorrect player was replaced.

Instead, Leander Dendoncker should have been hauled off for yet another disastrous and weak showing.

The Belgian international conceded two fouls and his passing was generally sloppy, recording a success rate of just 68.2% which was the lowest in the starting XI barring striker Patrick Cutrone.

Watch Wolverhampton Wanderers Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

His form domestically has followed a similar nature, averaging a lowly rating of just 6.38 – and his regression is something FFC have already outlined previously.

If Moutinho was introduced alongside Gibbs-White they could have garnered better success in front of goal, there’s no way of knowing if Braga still would have scored, though it was unlikely considering they had registered just one shot on target prior to the 71st-minute winner.

The young 19-year-old midfielder scored his first goal for the club in this very competition netting against Pyunik and was one of Wolves’ only threats in the attacking third.

That decision may well have stopped the west Midlands club opening their account in Group K with a perfect result.

3 Potential EPL Transfers That Are Going To Blow Your Mind In 2022

2022 has some incredible potential to be an extraordinary year for football.

Not only are there a plethora of highly-anticipated tournaments waiting for us just around the corner, but there are also a few rumours of some truly insane transfers that we may see in the near future.

There is some impeccable talent playing within the EPL at the moment, and as you will see, some teams are fighting tooth and nail to try and get their hands on said talent before it’s too late.

In this article, we will be telling you about three potential EPL transfers we may see in 2022 that are going to blow your mind, as well as giving a brief explanation as to why each player is so in-demand.

Duvan Zapata – Newcastle £25M

This transfer is one that has been brewing for a while.

It was only a matter of time until another team attempted to grab Duvan Zapata, and it looks as though this fateful day has finally arrived.

Newcastle has put a bid in for Duvan Zapata for £25 million, and if the rumours are true, it looks as though this deal is as good as closed.

There’s no doubt that Duvan will be able to do wonders at Newcastle, and many people believe he is a natural fit for their side.

Moreover, we all know just how much of an impact a new player can have when they join a squad, and this point is even more applicable when we are talking of someone of the calibre of Duvan Zapata.

Of course, it’s completely possible for Duvan to turn down this bid. However, this is extremely unlikely, and it is likely only a matter of time until we hear news about him joining Newcastle.

£25 million seems like more than a fair price for Duvan, and in reality, that is probably right around what he is worth as things stand now.

Milinkovic Savic – Man Utd £60M

Up next, coming in at £60 million, we have Milinkovic Savic who may end up going to Man Utd.

If you have tried your hand at premier league betting, you likely already know how successful of a team Manchester United are. It makes perfect sense for them to try and get a talented player like Milinkovic Savic, and there is no doubt that he will have exactly the effect that Man Utd are hoping he will have.

£60 million is an incredibly high fee, there is no debating that. However, for a team like Man Utd, this is something that they are able to afford.

Still, they must really think that Milinkovic is something special to offer this large of a sum, and if they have been willing to spend this much to grab Savic, then you can bet that they are willing to fight tooth and nail to get him into their ranks.

Manchester United are trying to sign Milinkovic Savic as we speak, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear an announcement from either side stating that a deal has been made in the near future.

John McGinn – Man Utd £40M

Manchester United really are spending the big bucks at the moment.

As well as Milinkovic Savic for £60 million, it seems as though they are also trying to get John McGinn for a whopping £40 million.

Just this fact alone goes to show that Man Utd truly are a team that put performance above all else, and it is no wonder that they find themselves winning more games than any other team in the EPL.

John McGinn would be an excellent fit for Manchester United, and it seems as though many believe he was destined to end up at said team at one point or another.

John would be a fantastic addition for the legendary side, and it is only a matter of time until we find out whether or not it is meant to be.

If you are looking to bet on premier league at 10bet, you can rest assured knowing that Manchester United is still going to remain the top choice.

With their new additions of Milinkovic Savic and John McGinn, they are going to be truly unstoppable.

If any of the transfers we mentioned in this article end up taking place, you can bet it’s going to be massive news.

Moreover, from what we have heard from the rumours so far, it seems as though they are almost guaranteed to happen.

The EPL has just got so much on offer right now, and there has never been a better time to be a fan of football.

Have fun.

Rangers had a shocker with Mikel Arteta

Rangers have built an exciting squad at Ibrox with a perfect blend of talented young prospects and experienced professionals all in Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s armoury.

The Gers have the likes of Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Leon Balogun and Ryan Jack, among others, to lean on for their know-how on the pitch.

They also have players like Ryan Kent, Calvin Bassey and Ianis Hagi who are still progressing in their careers at Rangers, with a potential eye on making it at the very top level.

Shocker

Rangers have had a number of gems pass through Ibrox on a similar journey, and one player with whom they had a big shocker in 2004 was Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta.

He joined the Gers from Barcelona in 2002 at the tender age of 19, and then-Ibrox manager Alex McLeish sang his praises, saying: “Mikel is an excellent young player, and I’m sure he is someone who will really excite the Rangers fans.

“I think the fans will see a class act when he pulls on a Rangers jersey next season. He is very comfortable on the ball and he has an excellent touch – and the great thing is his best years are still ahead of him.”

Arteta went on to play seven UEFA Cup and Champions League matches for the Gers in two seasons, scoring one goal and failing to provide any assists. Reports in 2003 indicated that he was unhappy with being played out of position, which led to him being sold to Real Sociedad for a fee that Transfemarkt claims to be £3.6m in the summer of 2004.

He lasted half a season back in Spain before he was picked up Premier League side Everton on loan in January 2005, signing permanently for the English club in the summer of that year. This is where he really made a name for himself, as in 209 matches for the Toffees, he scored 35 goals and produced 35 assists.

His impressive performances in the middle of the park led to his value skyrocketing. In February 2009, Transfermarkt valued him at a whopping £18m, a full 400% more than the £3.6m that Rangers received for him. This valuation was just under two years prior to his move to another Premier League side in Arsenal for £10m in 2011.

He saw out the rest of his playing time with the Gunners and is now the current head coach of the London giants, having previously worked with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. This shows that he has excelled in management after a fine playing career and has gone on to achieve great things since leaving the Gers, as he is in charge of a team competing at the right end of the English top flight.

In conclusion, McLeish had a shocker with Arteta in 2004 in allowing the player to leave over issues with where he was being deployed on the pitch. The Scot was unwilling to compromise and make the best use of the Spaniard’s talents, and the Gers were left to regret this as they watched the player’s value rise and rise in the years after he left Ibrox…

Newcastle eyeing deal for Stephy Mavididi

An update has emerged regarding Newcastle United’s pursuit of Montpellier forward Stephy Mavididi…

What’s the talk?

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are among the clubs interested in a deal to sign the former Arsenal attacker this month.

The report claims that Brighton and Crystal Palace are also monitoring his progress, with a fee in the region of £15m being touted.

Imagine him & Wood

Imagine a strike force of Wood and Mavididi lining up for Newcastle in the Premier League in the coming weeks with Callum Wilson out injured!

If Howe can secure a deal for the 23-year-old, he could be an ideal player to slot in alongside the New Zealand marksman due to his style of play and physique. The 5 foot 9 forward is in a similar mould to Wilson in the sense that he is more likely to cause problems with his pace and footwork than physically or in the air, which could complement Wood brilliantly.

Former Charlton boss Lee Bowyer once compared Mavididi to a greyhound because of his electric pace, saying: “There was one time we broke and we had Stephy and Sullay (Kaikai) breaking and it was like two greyhounds in a race – look at how quick they are.

“We’re very fortunate, we’ve got these types of players at the club., if we can get them right and get them all fit for the remaining eight games, it’s going to be exciting times.”

This suggests that the 23-year-old could be the perfect partner for Wood if Howe wants to play a 4-4-2 system, as he could be the one to make runs in behind and play off of the former Burnley man. The 6 foot 2 New Zealand international has won 5.5 aerial battles per game in the Premier League this season, which suggests that Mavididi could have numerous chances per match to run in behind and create chances from Wood’s flick-ons.

Karl Robinson, a former manager of his during a loan spell at Charlton, previously claimed that the young striker has a “bright future” , and this mooted transfer could be an investment for the future as well as one to make an immediate difference. At the age of 23, Mavididi has plenty of scope for development left in him, and he could be a player with whom Howe works over time to improve his game.

He is capable of playing through the middle or out wide and has been in fine form this season, with six goals and three assists in Ligue 1, after scoring nine goals last term, suggesting that he could have the end product to make the most of his prospective partnership with Wood.

That tantalising propsect means that Newcastle must do everything in their power to try and lure Mavididi back to England.
