Warburton rules out swap deal for Dozzell

Queens Park Rangers will not include Macauley Bonne as part of a deal to bring Andre Dozzell to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by West London Sport, who claim that, despite speculation that Bonne could make a move to Ipswich Town in order to sweeten QPR’s offer for Dozzell, Mark Warburton has no intention of parting with the 25-year-old centre-forward this summer.

It is then reported that the 58-year-old wishes to develop the Zimbabwe international over the remainder of his contract with the Rs, despite the fact that QPR recently confirmed the return of Charlie Austin on a permanent basis.

Grave mistake

While it is good to have strength in depth across the pitch, the fact that QPR will now have all five of Lyndon Dykes, Charlie Austin, Charlie Kelman, Aramide Oteh and Macauley Bonne capable of operating up front in their squad next season, the argument that it would be a mistake to scupper a chance to sign Dozzell simply to keep hold of Bonne is a relatively easy one to make.

Indeed, over his 34 Championship appearances for the Rs last season, the £1.8m-rated man scored just three goals, registered one assist and created one big chance for his teammates, as well as making an average of 0.3 key passes and hitting the target with 0.4 shots per game.

These returns saw the £3.9k-per-week striker earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.57, ranking him as Warburton’s third-worst performer out of the 28 players to feature in the second tier for QPR last term.

In comparison, over Dozzell’s 43 League One appearances for Ipswich last season, the attacking midfielder provided one assist and created 10 big chances for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.5 interceptions, 1.7 tackles and 1.3 key passes per game.

These metrics saw the £810k-rated man earn an average SofaScore match rating of 6.98, ranking him as the club’s joint seventh-best performer in the third tier.

As such, if QPR do not go on to complete a deal for the player Paul Lambert dubbed “incredible” this summer because of Warburton’s refusal to part with Bonne, it would appear to be a very big mistake on the part of the 58-year-old gaffer.

Levy can win back Spurs fans with Conte

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of one mooted managerial target if emerging reports are to be believed…

What’s the word?

According to FCInterNews, Antonio Conte could be forced to sensationally quit Inter Milan amid the club’s increasingly worrying financial situation.

It’s claimed that chairman Steven Zhang has requested pay cuts for the playing squad, coaching staff and club employees.

Earlier this week, the 51-year-old’s press conference was cancelled ahead of their Serie A clash with AS Roma due to the speculation about his future and to avoid spreading rumours about off-the-pitch matters.

As a result, Conte’s future at the San Siro has been thrown into doubt, opening the door for Spurs, who were linked to the Italian last week via Corriere dello Sport, to strike.

Forget Parker

The North London outfit have been linked to several names since Jose Mourinho was sacked nearly a month ago, though many appear to be out of the running, leaving the likes of Graham Potter and Scott Parker among the front-runners.

Spurs’ former midfielder would be an interesting option in the dugout, even if he has seen his Fulham side relegated this season but if Conte is truly going to be available, then his stature eclipses most of the likely candidates.

Daniel Levy has to get this appointment spot on.

Many were against Jose Mourinho from the get-go and recent developments over the European Super League and further cup final heartache have led to supporters baying for blood. They recently protested against the chairman, as well as the ENIC group, who are the majority shareholders of the club.

To get them back on side, the tough negotiator must turn to Conte – he’s picked up Mourinho’s mess before.

The ‘Special One’ left Chelsea in peril before they recorded their worst-ever finish since 1996.

In came the 51-year-old, who clinched the Premier League title in his very first season and then the FA Cup the following year.

He has since added a ninth major triumph to his trophy cabinet, clinching the Serie A title with Inter this campaign – their first in 11 years.

There are some similarities here with Spurs as the North Londoners have not tasted glory since 2008, so perhaps Conte can be the man to turn things around, as he did at Stamford Bridge and now in Milan.

Conte has left a lasting impression on some of the game’s greats, too. Back in 2018, Man City boss Pep Guardiola lauded his former nemesis for his impact in England.

“Tactically he is a master, he did it amazingly with Italy and when he went to Turin (with Juventus), he said, “I think Conte is going to leave, going to give something to English football. I’m sure of that.”

Conte’s 63% win rate at Inter is another encouraging factor, seeing as Mourinho was axed for winning 52% of his matches at Spurs, and according to Javier Zanetti, the former Chelsea man “brought a top-notch working culture” to the club, as per Ansa (via CultofCalcio).

If Levy wants to get back in the good books, then he should look to hire Conte over someone like Parker.

Newcastle suffer Saint-Maximin injury blow

Newcastle United have suffered a potentially huge blow ahead of their Premier League clash against Fulham on Sunday afternoon, with big question marks over Allan Saint-Maximin’s injury status.

The former Nice winger was forced off with less than 20 minutes to go of the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Sheffield United last time out, and speaking in his pre-match press conference, Bruce confirmed that the winger is a major doubt for the trip to the Cottagers today.

The manager said: “Saint-Maximin, we don’t know if he’s got a calf (injury), or whether it’s a kick as well. We’ll see how he is.”

When asked if the Frenchman’s injury was serious, Bruce added: “We hope not. It looked a bit innocuous, but whether it’s a strain, or whether it’s a kick, he’s not quite sure, so we’ll see how he is in the next 24 or 48 hours.”

The winger was in fantastic form against the Blades last time out, and as per Sofascore, his 8.1 match rating was the highest of any player on the pitch. He completed an incredible 15 of his 16 dribbles on the night and also won 19 of his 24 duels, and it was no surprise that he came in for some rave reviews after the game.

The Shields Gazette’s Liam Kennedy, who gave him an eight in his player ratings, wrote: “What a player. He’s turned up with the want to entertain. Some unbelievable runs from all over the park. Quiet in the last two games – not this time around. Shame he picked up an injury to end his night.”

Aside from the fact that fans might be gutted at missing out on seeing him one final time this season, there’s also the very real prospect that Saint-Maximin may have actually played his last game for the club.

Speaking on talkSPORT earlier this week, the Frenchman said: “I have to be honest, sometimes you have to think about yourself. The most important thing is the team, of course, but you have to think sometimes about your future and that’s why I say I don’t want to fight for one more year to be safe.

“So I hope we try to do everything to have more ambition and to win a trophy and fight for the first place, it can be great.”

Unless the Magpies enjoy the kind of summer transfer window which convinces Saint-Maximin that the club has the right “ambition” to match his own, he could be on his way out, and that would mean Newcastle fans have already seen the last of the dazzling Frenchman in a black and white shirt.

They will be hoping that his injury is nothing too serious, and even more importantly, that he stays for the long-term rather than jumping ship over the summer.

Meanwhile, Luke Edwards has dropped an exciting Newcastle United update…

Kilpatrick drops potential ‘good news’ for Spurs

After a major announcement on Tuesday afternoon, with AS Roma officially appointing ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho for the 2021/2022 season, journalist Dan Kilpatrick has reacted on social media whilst claiming it is ‘potentially good news for Spurs’ (Twitter).

Journalist reacts as ‘potentially good news for Spurs’ emerges

Mourinho, who was sacked by the Lilywhites last month after nearly a year and a half in the job, was then placed on gardening leave and the club could have been forced to keep on paying his reported £10.5 million-per-year salary for up to 18 months (football.london).

However, in an announcement which could greatly benefit Tottenham financially, AS Roma have announced that they have hired Mourinho for the 2021/2022 campaign – with the Portuguese’ time on gardening leave now set to be short.

Journalist Kilpatrick, of the Evening Standard, was stunned by the promptness of the appointment and also believes this comes as a boost for Spurs – writing an emphatic message on Twitter in reaction to the major news.

“Wow – Jose wasting no time getting back in work,” he explained.

“And potentially good news for Spurs in terms of a payoff.”

Transfer Tavern take

In uncertain times, chairman Daniel Levy and the club will be grateful for any financial break given the toll caused by coronavirus over this past year.

Spurs announced an ‘irrecoverable’ £63.9 million loss late last year (Evening Standard) and still haven’t found a lucrative deal for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium naming rights – with chief commercial officer Todd Kline understood to be working behind the scenes (football.london).

Tottenham will apparently only have to keep paying Mourinho’s full salary until he starts the job at Roma this summer, and it certainly comes as a boost given his wages would have been a considerable drain on the club’s kitty until next summer.

West Ham fans rage at Jesse Lingard news

Many West Ham United fans are unhappy after it was revealed that Jesse Lingard could return to Manchester United for good at the end of the season as the Hammers cannot afford to sign him permanently.

The £13.5m-valued maestro, who made the move on loan to the London Stadium in January, has been a revelation under David Moyes. In 13 Premier League games, he has helped himself to nine goals and four assists (Transfermarkt), and his arrival gave the Irons a boost as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

It has been suggested previously that Lingard would set West Ham back £20m if they signed him permanently (Eurosport). However, according to the Daily Mail, the England international could start next season back at Old Trafford as West Ham are unsure whether they will have the funds required to sign him on a permanent basis.

The news was shared on Twitter by @WestHamViews_, and it attracted plenty of attention from Hammers fans. These supporters took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, with one taking aim at the club’s much-maligned GSB ownership for their apparent reluctance to stump up the necessary funds for a permanent capture.

Everton without Delph vs Crystal Palace

Many Everton fans have been left to fume at some early team news ahead of their game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday evening.

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match against Roy Hodgson’s men at Goodison Park, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed (via The Toffee Blues) that Fabian Delph is out injured and thus will play no part in the fixture.

The former Aston Villa and Manchester City player has already missed no fewer than 15 games through injury so far in the 2020/21 term and has a very long record of being injured throughout his whole career (Transfermarkt).

The fact that he is injured once more seems to be the last straw for several members of the Merseyside club faithful, as they are starting to question the purpose of him still being at the Toffees.

Everton fans on Delph injury

These EFC supporters fumed on Twitter upon reading that the central midfield player is injured once again, with one even going as far as to claim that it is ‘absolutely ridiculous’:

Wolves in talks to sign Guedes

Wolves have opened negotiations with Valencia for Goncalo Guedes, according to Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida.

An offer between €20-25 million will apparently be enough to tempt the La Liga side to part with the 24-year-old, despite him having an absolutely remarkable release clause in his current deal.

Nuno’s side look to have stolen a march on West Ham and Everton, also named by Almeida as interested parties.

Valencia could make loss on Guedes

Valencia paid £36million to make Guedes’ loan deal permanent in August 2018 and tied him down to a six-year deal (via BBC Sport).ÂThat contract included an eye-watering £270million release clause.

But it looks as if Los murcielagosÂare now entertaining realistic offers, with Guedes only able to contribute two La Liga goals this season and the financial impact of the pandemic hitting the club hard.

In all, he has been directly involved in 42 goals in 128 Valencia matches (20 goals, 22 assists).ÂHe’s also been capped 22 times at senior level for Portugal, having last been called up in September.

Transfer Tavern verdict

It’s worth noting just how much Valencia have struggled this season. Last year, they made it to the Champions League of Round 16, but there’s no prospect of European qualification this time around with Javi Gracia’s side languishing in 13th.

So Guedes shouldn’t be written off just because his own statistics are a little underwhelming – Cristiano Ronaldo is such a big fan of his compatriot he allegedly wanted him to replace Gareth Bale at Real Madrid.ÂIf Pedro Neto were to be prised away, Guedes could be an excellent replacement.

Man United do not need Lloris

Manchester United have been linked with an extraordinary move for Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris.

According to L’Equipe, the Red Devils are keen to swoop for the Spurs stopper, with Jose Mourinho reportedly considering replacing the Frenchman with compatriot Mike Maignan.

Whilst Lloris has proven himself to be a solid stopper in the Premier League, he is simply not needed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils.

As it stands, United are well-stocked for goalkeepers. David de Gea and Dean Henderson are both currently vying for the no.1 shirt at Old Trafford, whilst the club also have Sergio Romero, Lee Grant and Joel Pereira in reserve.

With as many as five first-team stoppers, there is not a necessity to bring in any more options should all of them remain into next season.

It could be argued that Lloris would intensify that competition further, a statement that would certainly be true considering he has made 289 appearances in the Premier League and claimed 103 clean sheets – not to mention winning a FIFA World Cup with France in 2018.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-man-united-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=” Latest Man United transfer rumours and news!”]

However, Lloris has developed somewhat of a mistake-ridden reputation. In his Premier League career, the 34-year-old has made 19 errors directly leading to a goal – at a rate of one every 15 games.

For comparison, de Gea has only made 14 in 337 appearances – one approximately every 24 matches in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Henderson is averaging an error every 21 matches, again some way higher than Lloris’ average.

Away from his presence between the sticks, Lloris would likely cost the Red Devils a considerable amount – money that could be spent better elsewhere.

Rated at a modest £8.1m, United would have to stump up his £100k per week wages. For a player that they may not even need, that seems a considerable amount to invest.

Despite any move for Lloris being an extraordinary one, it is one that Ed Woodward should avoid.

Villa must move for Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham

Aston Villa should make a move for Chelsea star Tammy Abraham this summer amid Lee Hendrie’s transfer claim.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have linked Dean Smith’s side with a move for the striker in this upcoming summer transfer window, with Abraham of course having worked under the Villa boss for a season when the Midlands club were earning promotion back to the Premier League in 2018/19.

Hendrie has now thrown his weight behind a potential move for Abraham, insisting that the £36m-rated centre-forward would be a “fabulous fit” at Villa.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, he said: “I’m a big fan of Tammy, I really am. I just feel that he’s got great energy. When he was at Villa for that period of time, he was immense, he really was. He was a breath of fresh air, he gave it that belief, he gave fans a lot of pleasure and he scored a lot of goals. It might be that Tammy has to leave Chelsea, and I do feel that coming to Villa, I think it’d be a fabulous fit.

“He’s a player I’d have all day at the club because, at the moment you’re looking at the overload that Ollie Watkins has gone through this season, (he’s) played a hell of a lot of games. Imagine having those two in your squad. I just feel that’d be a massive positive push for Villa.”

Reunion with Dean Smith

Having netted a whopping 26 goals in 40 games during Villa’s Championship run in the 2018/19 campaign, it’s no surprise that Smith has previously raved about the striker.

Speaking after he netted against Swansea that season, the Villa boss said: “Tammy is a handful and he knows better than me that he should have been walking away with the match ball tonight. But he scored the winning goal, he’s a hell of a talent. Tammy put in a hell of a shift up front on his own and proved he is a fine player.”

Called the “real deal” by former Villa boss Tim Sherwood, Abraham’s previous experience in working with Smith would likely see him hit the ground running at Villa Park as there should be no need for adjusting to what the manager wants or his style of play.

The 23-year-old has since had ample experience playing at Premier League level, and has shown he can handle the step up – last year saw him bag 15 goals in the top flight, while he has netted six in 20 league games this season despite not being a first team regular..

Villa would be making a shrewd move by landing Abraham this summer.

Meanwhile, Villa are eyeing a transfer move for this 6 ft 4 warrior…

Saints fans react to Kayne Ramsay news

Plenty of Southampton fans have been reacting to the news that 20-year-old Kayne Ramsay has penned a new contract at the club.

Ramsay has so far made just three appearances for the club (Transfermarkt), but that has not stopped the Saints from getting him to commit his future. The defender has signed a two-year deal which will keep him at St Mary’s Stadium until 2023.

The youngster will be hoping to have a big future on the south coast, and the news of his signature has attracted plenty of attention from Southampton fans after the confirmation was shared on the Saints’ official Twitter account. Some fans have now demanded that he plays regularly – with Kyle Walker-Peters out injured, Ramsay would be the natural replacement for him at right-back.

These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Ramsay below

“What’s the point? Centre back picked over him in his own position constantly, about time he’s given a chance!”
