Going big on youth can certainly be risky, but Chelsea have done it anyway.

Fortunately, even though it’s still early on in the club’s plan, it looks to be a risk that’s panning out for Enzo Maresca’s side.

For example, in the squad this season, the likes of Jorrel Hato, Andrey Santos, Roméo Lavia and more are all 21 and under, and there are even more talents coming in the summer.

Moreover, Estevao is still just 18 years old and looks like a superstar in the making, and even he might be outshone by another youngster set to dazzle Stamford Bridge and the Premier League at large next season.

The Ecuadorian midfielder, who already has 20 senior caps to his name at just 18 years old, is spending the season on loan with Strasbourg and has already netted his first goal for the side.

Lastly, while he is on the older side of this conversation, fellow Strasbourg star Emanuel Emegha will be making his way to West London in the summer, and he could be an instant hit.

For example, in 29 appearances last season, the “simply phenomenal” gem, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, scored 14 goals and provided three assists, and then this season, he’s put the ball in the back of the net four times and provided two assists in just six games.

With all that said, there is another gem set to join the Blues, perhaps the most exciting of the lot and someone who could end up being better than Estevao.

While there are other players set to join up with Chelsea in the summer, the most exciting, and the one who has the best chance of actually being better than Estevao, is Geovany Quenda.

At least the club will be hoping that is the case, as they paid a whopping £44m for the then-17-year-old in March of this year.

Fortunately, based on his performances last season and so far this year, it certainly looks like the West Londoners have got their hands on someone truly special, or as Kulig puts it, “one of the most exciting teenagers in World football.”

Now, that might sound like hyperbole, but at just 18 years old, the Portuguese wonderkid has already made 65 appearances for Sporting CP’s senior side, totalling 4322 minutes, in which he has scored four goals and provided 12 assists.

Moreover, with 12 games played in the Champions League, in which he’s produced three goal involvements, he is already more experienced at the top level than Estevao.

Described as a “relentless” and “highly unpredictable” winger by Mattinson, the youngster is also producing some impressive underlying numbers in the Primeira Liga this year.

According to FBref, he ranks in the top 3% of wingers and attacking midfielders for expected assisted goals, key passes, through-balls, goal-creating actions, carries, and so much more, all per 90.

Glamorgan dominated day two to enforce a Middlesex follow-on overnight, seeking a third consecutive win inside three days.Andy Gorvin starred with the ball once again for Glamorgan with 4 for 39 including two wickets in two balls to reduce Middlesex to 155 all out, trailing by 228 runs.Max Holden’s strong seasonal start continued with a top-scoring 42 for the visitors after a number of starts failed to kick on in favourable bowling conditions.Middlesex batters were relieved of batting for the second time in the same day as a second rain-interruption brought an early close.Glamorgan returned for a rain-threatened day at 334 for 7 after two exceptional centuries from Sam Northeast and Kiran Carlson on day one. Chris Cooke added some resistance after a slight wobble the previous evening to keep Glamorgan in the hunt for a full batting points display.A slow start to the morning with gloomy, overcast conditions saw bowlers prevail, as tends to happen in opening sessions at Sophia Gardens. Spurs keen on new defender after Bournemouth defeat

Tottenham suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday afternoon, coming up short in a 1-0 loss at home to AFC Bournemouth, and Thomas Frank wasn’t impressed with his side’s defensive performance.

The Spurs boss criticised his side’s ability to deal with balls in-behind, saying: “Not a shock if I’m honest but not what I expected. I hoped for more. We played against a good Bournemouth team. I don’t think we handled the balls behind and the second ball game very well for whatever reason.

“They play behind as soon as they can and have willing runners. A few passes and they play the ball behind. That’s difficult to play against.

“In football, it goes so quick. We can still find good bits but overall, it’s not a good performance.”

Defensive issues plagued the north Londoners throughout the 2024-25 campaign, given that Ange Postecoglou was known to be uncompromising on his attacking principles, but Frank is well-known to be more pragmatic.

As such, the Dane’s side have kept two clean sheets in their opening three Premier League games, but the manager still remains keen on bringing in another centre-back, who could provide competition for Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

That is according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), which states Tottenham have now moved into pole position in the race for Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, who is also being targeted by AC Milan and Crystal Palace.

Lauded as “excellent” by The Telegraph’s James Ducker, the 30-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League over a number of years, making a combined 59 appearances for City as they secured back-to-back titles in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns.

The Switzerland international’s experience could make him a solid signing for Frank, and his versatility would also be of great use, with Pep Guardiola praising his player for being able to play in a multitude of positions.

Guardiola said: “He is a lovely guy, can play in different positions. Normally a central defender but (he can play) right back, holding midfield. He is open minded, well educated, so intelligent.”

Although Akanji is now 30-years-old, he would be a low-cost addition to the Tottenham squad at just £13m, and the defender’s versatility would make him a useful option for Frank, in what is set to be a congested campaign.

It’s been a frustrating few weeks for Brendan Rodgers and matters have now only been made worse by the recent update on an injured Celtic player that he risked playing against Rangers before the international break.

Celtic sign Kelechi Iheanacho

Much of Rodgers’ frustration has surrounded Celtic’s transfer business. Their 0-0 draw against Old Firm rivals Rangers summed up the attacking problems that they still needed to address and, as such, Kelechi Iheanacho has since arrived. Joining back up with Rodgers for the first time since their Leicester City days, the forward desperately needs this move to go well.

The Nigerian was a free agent when Celtic turned his way, having been released after a disappointing spell at Sevilla. Now, at 28 years old, the Bhoys have handed him one final opportunity to get his career back on track.

Speaking to the club website after welcoming Iheanacho to his side, Rodgers told Celtic’s official website: “I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate.

“I am sure he will love being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he brings. He has great experience and he is right in his peak years so he can be a great signing for us. I am sure he will make a big contribution to the team.”

The debate is ongoing as to whether the forward’s arrival will hand Celtic the boost that they were looking for, but whilst that rumbles on, the Scottish champions have been handed an undeniable blow on the injury front.

Anthony Ralston injury update after Rodgers risked him

After dropping out of the Scotland squad alongside Kieran Tierney, Anthony Ralston is now an early doubt to face Kilmarnock. The defender was thrown in the deep end and risked against Rangers despite appearing to take a knock just days before in Celtic’s Champions League tie against Kairat Almaty and Rodgers has since suffered the consequences of that decision.

Given that Alistair Johnston is already sidelined with a hamstring tear, Celtic now have themselves a mini injury crisis in the right-back spot. It begs the question as to why Rodgers would risk Ralston against Rangers in the first place.

The manager is certainly a fan of the defender, having told reporters at the end of last season: “Guys like Tony are really pivotal to the culture of this club. He doesn’t play every single game, but he is probably one of our most important players here because of his history at the club.”

Celtic now have just 10 days to get Ralston back fit and ready for the Kilmarnock game as they look to return to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership.

Arne Slot has held his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s second Premier League game of the season against Newcastle United, revealing he is happy with the current squad.

“As always, if we think we can improve in a certain position and there’s a player available who can really make us better – which you could see with Giovanni Leoni – then this club has always shown that they can bring these players in, but only if things are right,” said the Dutchman.

Liverpool are preparing another bid for Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. The Reds had previously bid £110 million plus add-ons for the Swedish striker, but that deal was rejected. Now, as Newcastle edge closer to signing Yoane Wissa and also line up Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen, Liverpool are preparing a new bid for Isak.

Reports from Spain have indicated that the new bid will be worth somewhere in the region of £138 million. The club view this massive fee as worthwhile, however, as they think “his arrival would bridge the gap following the imminent end of the Salah era”.

The bid may come in after the two clubs face each other on Monday, as Newcastle are unlikely to sell their best player to a team right before they play them.

From the player’s perspective, it has now got to the point where he is publicly pushing for the move, as he put out a statement before the PFA awards, where he spoke of Newcastle’s broken promises and the benefits of “change” for both parties.

Whilst Hugo Ekitike had an impressive season last year in the Bundesliga, he arrived in the Premier League as something of an unknown quantity, and when it looked like Liverpool might sign him and Isak, the latter looked the safest option of the two.

Ekitike quickly put any doubts about him to rest with his first two performances for Liverpool. During the Community Shield and the opening Premier League game, he registered two goals and an assist, showing that he’s easily adapted to English football.

This means Slot may be faced with the best predicament a manager could find themselves in, as he has two impressive strikers both competing for game time. While Isak may want to come straight into the first team, he’s been away from team training at Newcastle for a while, meaning it may take a few weeks to get up to speed.

An answer to Slot’s issue may arrive before it becomes too much of a problem. This is because in less than a month’s time, the Champions League group stage will be starting, meaning Liverpool will often be playing two games a week, and there should be ample minutes for the forwards to share.

However, he’s not the only attacker currently in their sights, leading to key work being done to complete a deal for Real Madrid star Rodrygo, according to one Spanish outlet.

They claim that the Lilywhites have already entered negotiations with the Brazilian’s representatives over a move to North London after he was told he’s free to leave the Spanish giants this window.

Their report also states that the 24-year-old could be available for a fee in the region of £86m, but Frank’s side aren’t alone in their pursuit, with fellow English sides Arsenal and Liverpool also closely monitoring the situation.

After selling Kane for £82m a couple of years ago, the hierarchy turned to Dominic Solanke last summer in an attempt to fill the void left by his compatriot.

A move for Rodrygo may prove to be a pricey one, but it’s a deal that could hand Frank the talent he craves to be a success during his first season in the role.

Rodrygo, who’s been labelled “world-class” by analyst Ben Mattinson, scored 14 times across all competitions last season, having the goalscoring nouse despite his wide position – something the side have desperately lacked in 2024/25.

Dolphins ensured they did not bow out of the Champions Cup without a win, as they beat Lions by 16 runs in the last league game of the tournament.With Lions needing 81 from five overs with three wickets in hand, a Dolphins win seemed a mere formality. But Khushdil Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi, batting with an injured knee, threatened to pull off a heist. The pair hit seven sixes and two fours in the next four overs to reduce the equation to 23 needed from the final over. But Abbas Afridi held his nerve to give his side a consolation win.It must have been a no-brainer for Dolphins to bat after winning the toss; the teams batting first are yet to lose a game in the tournament. Dolphins lost Sahibzada Farhan in the sixth over but Muhammad Hurraira and Muhammad Akhlaq added 77 in 10.1 overs to set the platform.Hurraira scored 47 off 41 balls and Akhlaq 52 off 50. After the two fell in quick succession, Umar Amin took over. Despite Lions making regular breakthroughs, he found enough support from the lower middle order to steer Dolphins ahead.By the time Amin fell, for 75 in the 42nd over, Dolphins had 275 on the board. Even though they were all out in the last over, they had posted a challenging 326.In response, Abdullah Shafique and Rohail Nazir gave Lions a steady start of 78 in 13.3 overs. Carlson reached his half-century in the sixth over of the morning and then punched England all-rounder Ahmed to the boundary to bring up the 150 partnership in the 47th over.Not to be outdone, Ingram hit Ahmed back over his head for six two balls later.
