Newcastle United have taken huge strides since their Saudi-led takeover in 2021 and could now look to continue their pursuit of success at St James' Park by adding more talent to their squad this summer.
What's the latest on Newcastle's interest in Kaoru Mitoma?
According to The Telegraph's Northern football writer Luke Edwards, Newcastle are interested in several Premier League players this summer with Brighton and Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma named as one of the potential targets.
As per the report, despite concerns surrounding the club's Financial Fair Play obligations, both sporting director Dan Ashworth and manager Eddie Howe have stressed the importance of being bold in the transfer window to maintain the high standards they have set throughout this season.
It is claimed that Mitoma is just one of many players that the club are looking to bring in this summer, with Ivan Toney, Declan Rice and James Maddison also named as players already discussed as potential targets.
Will Newcastle sign Mitoma this summer?
There is no doubt that the Newcastle boss will be absolutely thrilled with the phenomenal form his squad have been in over the last nine months, with Champions League football next season becoming a huge possibility for the club ahead of schedule.
The Magpies are currently fourth in the top-flight table after chalking up just four defeats over their 30 fixtures so far and conceding the fewest number of goals (24) in the entire league, which is an incredible achievement for the team.
However, should the North East club find their European football dreams become a reality, it would be advantageous to add some fresh legs and perspectives to key areas of the pitch to ensure they are capable of comfortably competing at the highest level whilst juggling multiple competitions.
As a result, the signing of Mitoma would be a fantastic coup for the club to provide star striker Alexander Isak – a man with five goals in the last month – with a partner in the forward line who can offer high-quality opportunities and further increase their creativity in the final third.

The Brighton winger – who has a reported price tag of £35m – has had an outstanding season and has been one of the Premier League's stand-out performers for his contributions to the Seagulls' impressive campaign.
Mitoma ranks in the top 15% of his positional peers in the top five European leagues for non-penalty goals, pass completion, progressive carries, touches and tackles.
he matches that dazzling quality and work-ethic with goal involvement too, scoring seven times this term, as well as registering four assists and creating seven big chances over 24 Premier League appearances.
The Japanese forward's huge influence on the pitch has not gone unnoticed, with Brighton's CEO Paul Barber signing Mitoma's praises on The Beautiful Game Podcast last month:
“Obviously, he’s [Mitoma] another player that will be in the spotlight in the next transfer window.
“He is so exciting to watch – a throwback to old-school wingers.”
With that being said, Howe could form a dream strike force for the Magpies this summer by acquiring the services of Mitoma. Indeed, he would fit perfectly alongside their energetic and incisive striker Isak next season to spark more goal contributions and add quality depth to the forward line.

Chelsea want to keep hold of promising young centre-back Levi Colwill during the summer transfer window, according to an update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
How is Colwill faring at Brighton?
The 20-year-old joined Brighton on loan last summer after Thomas Tuchel couldn't promise him regular minutes at Stamford Bridge, in order to aid his development moving forward.
Colwill has impressed for the Seagulls when given an opportunity to shine, winning an average of 2.9 aerial duels per game across 10 Premier League appearances, as well as averaging an 88.9% pass completion rate. Admittedly, he hasn't found it easy to start regularly, given the form and experience of Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster, but his potential has been obvious when he has taken to the field.
The Englishman was also eye-catching on loan at Huddersfield Town last season, playing 31 times and helping them reach the Championship playoff final, which they eventually lost to Nottingham Forest.
Colwill has recently been linked with a move away from Chelsea, with Liverpool and Manchester City believed to be eyeing him up, but it looks as though the Blues will do all they can to keep hold of him.
Levi Colwill for Brighton
Do Chelsea want to keep youngster?
Taking to Twitter, Romano dropped a fresh update regarding Colwill's future, saying it is very much Chelsea's intention to retain his services:
"Chelsea want to keep Levi Colwill as he's considered a top talent, no doubts on club side amid interest from other clubs. Colwill wants to feel important and play. Contract expires in 2025; the option to extend can only be activated in case he plays big amount of games."
It is vital for any club to tie down talented young players and Chelsea are no different when it comes to Colwill, with the youngster compared to John Terry in the past and seen as a potential future England international. Former Huddersfield teammate Lewis O'Brien once called him "fantastic" and Carlos Corberan has assessed his international future, saying he could be "one of the most important centre-backs for this country in the future."
This all outlines why Chelsea must keep hold of Colwill moving forward, and also not strengthening one of their rivals at the same times, so the hope is that the player himself sees a pathway into the first team and is assured over his future, especially with the likes of Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly now in their 30s.
Glasgow Rangers need to undergo some major rebuilding during the summer transfer window if they wish to overcome their Old Firm rivals at the top of the Premiership table next season.
Michael Beale has enjoyed a solid start to life at Ibrox. However, heading into this weekend, the gap between them and Celtic sat at 12 points – and this is unacceptable.
There has been progress, with the likes of January signing Todd Cantwell settling in well, and he could certainly be the figurehead of a new era under Beale.
One area the Englishman must get right is that of a good solid goalkeeper, as Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin have been poor this term. The duo have conceded 46 (1.4 per game) and 18 (1.8 per game) goals respectively this term, and with a combined age of 76, the time has surely come to bring in someone slightly younger.
Beale could plump for a player who looks set to become a free agent this summer, and having played in the English Premier League during his career, Jack Butland could be an ideal signing.
Could Rangers sign Jack Butland?
Rangers were linked with Butland last summer; however, a broken finger suffered in pre-season ruined any chances of a deal going through.
We think Beale should try and make a move for the ‘keeper, especially as the current Manchester United loanee is set to become a free agent this summer as Crystal Palace are seemingly happy with their options heading into 2023/2024.
This could prove to be a major coup for the Gers, with Butland only 30 years of age, he could become the No 1 for the foreseeable future, and with plenty of experience in England, it could be considered a no-brainer to offer the 6 foot 5 titan a deal.
Across his career, Butland has appeared 87 times in the English top flight, keeping 21 clean sheets in those games.
Jack Butland warming up
There is no doubt that the goalkeeper hailed as "really skilful" by Erik ten Hag has a wealth of experience, also winning nine caps for England. Meanwhile, Joe Hart has proved that moving from England to Scotland later in your career can generate excellent results, as he has enjoyed a resurgence since turning out for the Hoops.
Beale will surely be keeping tabs on the Palace shot-stopper, and hopefully he makes his move sooner rather than later as the Gers aim to reclaim the SPFL title next year.
Everton had their four-game unbeaten run destroyed on their visit to Old Trafford in their Premier League clash with Manchester United, and Sean Dyche will be disappointed with the result as the pressure mounts on avoiding relegation.
The Toffees could fall back into the drop zone later this afternoon as a number of their rivals are in action this weekend, so it will be out of their hands as to whether they will keep their head above water or fall into deeper trouble before their next game.
Dyche opted for a change in formation against the Red Devils, deploying a 4-4-2 system instead of the successful 4-1-4-1 used in the draw against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, and it massively back-fired with the Everton defence completely smothered by their hosts' attacking threat.
Everton failed to dominate any area of the pitch with just 36% possession, fewer shots on target (1 v 11) and fewer big chances created (1 v 8). Meanwhile, they completed 300 fewer accurate passes (233 v 533) and lost possession on more occasions (130 v 129), suggesting that the 2-0 defeat could have been much worse if United had been more clinical in front of goal (stats via Sofascore).
In the first half, the Toffees had only Jordan Pickford to thank for staying in the game as long as they did, as Erik ten Hag's side ran riot in the channels, which led to a whopping 21 shots against them as Scott McTominay eventually broke the stalemate with a goal in the 36th minute.
Dyche made a crucial change at half-time with Vitaliy Mykolenko replacing Ben Godfrey on the left flank after he struggled to keep up with Antony throughout the opening 45 minutes.
However, it wasn't the left side that the Everton boss had to worry about in the second half, as Seamus Coleman had an absolute howler which led to Anthony Martial's 71st-minute strike to kill the game.
How did Seamus Coleman get on vs Manchester United?
The Everton club captain has been a consistent feature in the team since Nathan Patterson suffered an injury earlier in the season and has become a trusted player since Dyche's arrival at Goodison Park in January.
However, today's display will be one the experienced £55k-per-week Irishman will want to forget about in a hurry, as his lack of concentration was severely punished and ultimately cost Everton the opportunity to get back into the game in the dying minutes of the clash.

Over his 87-minute performance, Coleman lost possession of the ball 17 times, failed to win any of his aerial duels and completed just 24 accurate passes, with 33% of his pass attempts misplaced – and made the horrendous error that led to Martial's goal.
Manchester Evening News' chief correspondent for Manchester United, Samuel Luckhurst, took to Twitter to make a scathing statement about Coleman's mistake:
"Not the first time Seamus Coleman has crumbled with Anthony Martial near him. Easy goal that should kill the contest."
Indeed, it was a costly mistake, but we think there will is little doubt that Dyche will continue to put his trust in the right-back over the remainder of the season, as his experience at the club will continue to be a valuable asset to Everton in their fight for survival.
Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has 'major support' at Tottenham Hotspur amid their search for a new manager, according to reports.
What's the latest on Nagelsmann to Spurs?
The 35-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs since the north Londoners mutually agreed to part ways with former boss Antonio Conte.
This comes after Nagelsmann was surprisingly sacked by Bayern, despite the Bundesliga giants fighting on all fronts at the time, and he is now readily-available with plenty of pedigree.
Having won a Bundesliga title and with many years of tpp level coaching under his belt, all at such a young age, Nagelsmann arguably stands out as one of Europe's most exciting managers.
That fact isn't lost on chairman Daniel Levy and Spurs, who reportedly hold a serious interest in the former RB Leipzig boss after his shock Bayern dismissal.
RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann celebrates after the match vs Spurs
They may have just been boosted by reliable reports that Nagelsmann to Chelsea is no longer possible, with both the coach and Tottenham's rivals apparently withdrawing from talks.
This could potentially open the door for Spurs with a report by The Daily Mail sharing that Hoffenheim's former coach has plenty of backing inside Tottenham.
Indeed, it is believed that the tactician has 'major support' at N17 over potentially becoming Spurs' next manager, with Luis Enrique, Arne Slot and Vincent Kompany also of interest to the Lilywhites.
Brendan Rodgers, after his departure from Leicester City this month, is also available with Levy having considered him in the past.
Could Spurs hire Nagelsmann?
You could make an argument that Nagelsmann will need real reassurances that Spurs will give him the necessary financial backing to make a success of the club.
Serial winners like Jose Mourinho and Conte, despite the latter clinching a top four finish last season, ultimately failed in their mission to transform Spurs into elite trophy-contenders.
Nagelsmann will likely be taking this into consideration, but if Tottenham can persuade him to make the move or open formal talks, he would be quite the hire.
Called a 'phenomenal' tactical innovator by BBC Sport Writer Raj Chohan, his brand of intense, high-pressing football could be a joy to watch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
After the years of seeing a more dogmatic approach from the likes of Conte and Mourinho, Nagelsmann helping Spurs to press more on the front foot could be far more reminiscent of the Mauricio Pochettino era.
Newcastle United have identified the Everton midfielder Amadou Onana as a potential summer transfer target as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his midfield.
Would Everton sell Onana in the summer?
The Toffees find themselves in a really sticky situation ahead of the summer with their Premier League status a major question with nine games remaining.
However, their issues continue off the pitch with the club coming under serious fire as a result of their financial concerns which have been raised to an independent body.
And if Everton do find themselves in a situation where they absolutely have to sell some of their best players, then Onana could well be one of the big-ticket items in the window.
The 21-year-old only signed in the summer but did cost the Blues a whopping £33m and as a result of his age, it is probably a fee which they may feel is able to be clawed back if needed in the summer.
It will be interesting to see whether avoiding relegation could potentially see Everton keep ahold of these type of players, but it's apparent Newcastle are looking to add to their midfield.
And speaking on his YouTube channel, Craig Hope has claimed those at Newcastle have identified the £100k-per-week Belgian as a player to watch out for in the summer:
(4:40) "I mean a name which has been mentioned to me one or two times, and you know, could depend on this team being relegated but Amadou Onana down at Everton is someone who I think they like."
Would Onana be a good signing?
Despite being of such young age, the midfielder has made an immediate impact at Goodison Park where he has made 27 appearances in the Premier League alone (via Transfermarkt).
And he is a player who has received a lot of praise during his brief spell in the Premier League despite the issues Everton have endured this term.
No praise will come any more respected among Newcastle fans than that of Alan Shearer who waxed lyrical about the Belgian following his display in the recent victory against Arsenal: “A tireless display against Arsenal. Ran himself into the ground.”
Amadou Onana battles for the ball alongside Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff for Everton in the Premier League.
Onana could be seen as the holding midfielder Newcastle may need to extract the best out of the likes of Bruno Guimaraes.
In his first season in the English top flight, Onana has returned an average of 2.55 tackles per game which is slightly down on reported target, Scott McTominay, who has provided 2.76 per 90 minutes (via FBref).
However, the Belgian has offered more than double (586) the progressive carries that McTominay has recorded (236) in a Manchester United shirt this season.
Given United are a side that Newcastle are not battling against, perhaps Onana is also viewed as a more attainable option as well as someone who has more years left in them in comparison to McTominay.
Liverpool returned to winning ways in spectacular fashion as they demolished Leeds United 6-1 at Elland Road to secure a vital three points.
Jurgen Klopp’s men hadn’t won in the Premier League since the start of March, when they scored seven goals against Manchester United and were well overdue another win which boosts their European credentials.
The German stuck with the same team that drew 2-2 with Arsenal last week, and it paid dividends, with the front three of Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah all helping themselves to goals, while late substitute Darwin Núñez grabbed one too in a resounding display of attacking prowess.
The Anfield side dominated possession during the tie, having the ball 74% of the time and made their seven shots on target count.
Jota, who hadn’t scored in over a year, finally ended his drought with a double, and he averaged a Sofascore rating of 8.5/10, the joint-highest on the team.
The Portuguese forward took five shots, registered three goal contributions, and made one key pass in what was a lively display and a timely return to form at a crucial point of the campaign.
Yet it wasn’t he, nor the other two attackers who excelled the most, that honour goes to Curtis Jones.
How did Curtis Jones perform against Leeds United?
What a difference eight days can make. Last week against the Gunners, Jones was statistically one of the worst players on the team, just behind Virgil van Dijk, tonight, he was among one of their finest performers.
Aside from the front three and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jones’ Sofascore rating of 7.9 was the best in the Liverpool starting XI last night as he grabbed an assist, took 85 touches and completed 89% of his attempted passes, showing a much greater improvement than last week.
Curtis Jones for Liverpool
The Englishman provided an extra attacking dimension to Liverpool’s attack, making two key passes and succeeding with all four of his dribble attempts, demonstrating that he can contribute going forward when required.
By also making five tackles, one clearance and winning 11 duels, the £15k-per-week earner justified his selection in the starting XI as his defensive ability was key in allowing the Anfield side to secure a crucial three points and his performance was praised by journalist Josh Bunting, who said:
“Curtis Jones having a really good game here, completed the most dribbles and won the most duels also has an assist to his name. The pass to Diogo Jota is sensational, so sharp and smart to pick him out to score. Has been that driving force in the midfield in an energetic display.”
Bouncing back following his unconvincing display against Arsenal suggests the midfielder doesn’t allow a poor performance to bring him down and he was integral to Liverpool’s landslide win last night.
