West Ham United fans will have to wait until Monday night to get their fix of club football after the international break, as they take on Newcastle at St James Park.
The Magpies sit ninth in the Premier League after 11 games played, whilst the Hammers are languishing in 14th, having won just three of their opening 11.
After significant investment this summer, Julen Lopetegui has big expectations to make it work at the club, and his poor run of form could see his job under threat already, with the club sounding out possible replacements should they pull the trigger on the 58-year-old Spaniard.
A few names that have already been touted are Graham Potter and Edin Terzić, both of whom are currently out of a job, but one name that is beginning to surface is a manager already in the Premier League, who is doing an amazing job with his respective club.
West Ham could hire Premier League manager
According to reports from TEAMtalk last week, one name being mentioned internally is Bournemouth coach, Andoni Iraola, who is also being “eyed up” by a number of other top sides.
Labelled as a “very talented” manager during his time at Rayo Vallecano by scout Jacek Kulig, and he has managed to translate this to the English top flight.
Bournemouth do not play the same heavy possession style that West Ham were initially looking for when going from David Moyes to Lopetegui, but what he does bring is a clear identity, which has proven to stunt many top sides in the Premier League.
The Cherries average 45.0% possession per game (the sixth lowest in the division), but also average 15.5 shots per game (the third highest in the league), with only Tottenham and Manchester City managing more. This speaks perfectly to Iraola’s direct style, and his distinct idea to use their possession effectively, and with purpose.
Manager Focus
Who are the greatest coaches in the land? Football FanCast's Manager Focus series aims to reveal all.
The 42-year-old coach has averaged 1.32 points per match (PPM) since joining Bournemouth in July 2023, bettering both the 1.30 PPM Lopetegui managed at Wolves and the current 1.15 PPM he is averaging at West Ham.
If the Hammers did appoint Iraola, it would be a challenge to change their style again, but that change in style could benefit some of their current players, who would be better suited to a more direct approach.
The main West Ham player Iraola could benefit
The first player who could benefit from this change would be Jarrod Bowen, who is already seen as one of West Ham’s most important players. But that importance could be further exemplified under Iraola, highlighting his best qualities and getting the most from him.

The 27-year-old is a hard-working winger, who can press high, and then look to play direct. Under Moyes, Bowen scored 20 goals and provided ten assists in the 2023/24 season, much of his work coming from counter-attacking scenarios, and playing fast in transition.
In Iraola’s system, the way they manufacture their shots comes from their pressing patterns, looking to set traps all over the pitch, win the ball back, and then attack as quickly as possible, in as few passes as possible, looking to hurt the opposition whilst they are out of shape.
Jarrod Bowen scores for West Ham
Bowen has plenty of the qualities Iraola would like and despite the Hammers’ poor start to the campaign, he is better a host of his numbers from last term.
As a result, with the England international possessing the added bit of final third quality that some of Iraola’s Bournemouth players perhaps lack, it could make for a very exciting prospect if the Spanish coach were to work alongside West Ham’s flying winger.

The England international, who has made just 14 appearances in the 2024-25 campaign, was included in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI for a meeting with Plymouth at the Etihad Stadium. City fell behind in that contest, but battled back to claim a 3-1 win and book a quarter-final date with Bournemouth.

The day after figuring in cup competition, Grealish was spotted letting his hair down in the North East. He visited North Biddock Social Club near Sunderland, having also spent time at the Lord Nelson pub in Gorton, Manchester.

Grealish ended his boozy Sunday by visiting The Dubliner, where he was seen looking a little worse for wear when stumbling towards a waiting chauffeured car. There was no sign of his partner Attwood, who will be filling parenting duties after giving birth to the couple’s first child in September 2024.

Grealish also hit the town without Attwood in mid-February when attending the glamorous Chiltern Firehouse venue in Marylebone. After being followed out of that establishment by former model Emma Silverton, Grealish shouted “she’s not with me” before eventually being driven away from central London.
In the final Group D game, Sri Lanka won their third straight game, and in the process, ended hosts West Indies’ chance of winning a World Cup on home soil by completing a seven-wicket win. Australia, who had finished the group stage on four points, needed Sri Lanka to defeat West Indies to be assured of quarter-final qualification, and the result sees both sides now move on to the next stage.Sri Lanka chased down 251 with only three wickets in hand, finishing the game in the 49th over. Opener Sadisha Rajapaksa made 76 in 115 balls, but the real impetus in their innings came from the middle order. No. 3 Shevon Daniel made 34 in 33 balls, the wicketkeeper Anjala Bandara made a 52-ball 40 and the No. 7 Ranuda Somarathne scored an unbeaten 27-ball 28.It was a tricky chase for Sri Lanka, who were 96 for 3 at one stage, but the fourth-wicket stand of 78 between Rajapaksa and Bandara stabilised their innings, after which they did not look back.West Indies had made 250 on the back of a middle-order feasting of runs. No. 3 Teddy Bishop made 45, No. 4 Kevin Wickham scored 56, No. 5 Jordan Johnson struck 47 and No. 6 Rivaldo Clarke notched up a 35-ball 45. However, none of them could go on to capitalise on their solid starts, with Sri Lanka captain Dunith Wellalage taking 3 for 39 and West Indies falling prey to three consecutive run-outs.West Indies, who were hit by two players unavailable due to Covid-19, had drafted in both their Covid replacements for the match. While Wickham top scored with 56, seam bowler Nathan Edwards took 1 for 50.Sri Lanka and Australia will now wait to see how Group C pans out before learning about their quarter-final opponents.

Salah could leave Liverpool at the end of the season with his contract due to expire soon, so could Guardiola have been attempting to lure the Egyptian to the Etihad Stadium in a shock transfer? Well, probably not. The winger has the most goals (9) and most assists (6) of any player against sides managed by Guardiola as per the BBC's Match of the Day, so you can understand why the Catalan tactician might want him on his side.

WHAT NEXT FOR SALAH?
Liverpool are now safely in the driving seat in the Premier League title race and Salah will be hoping that what could well be his last season will bear another Premier League title and potentially a Champions League crown.
Sunderland are looking to continue their fantastic form this weekend, heading to Queens Park Rangers, and they have been handed a big injury boost.
Sunderland injury news
Regis Le Bris’ side are the team to watch in the Championship so far this season, putting together an imperious run of form that sees them sit top of the table and five points clear of anyone else.
On Saturday afternoon, Sunderland make the trip to a QPR side languishing near the bottom of the league, with the west Londoners in 23rd place and finding themselves firmly in a relegation battle.
The gulf in class between the Black Cats and their weekend opponents is huge currently, but the Championship is an unpredictable league and Le Bris is without a number of players this weekend.
Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is a high-profile absentee, for example, failing to recover from injury after also missing last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at home to Oxford United, while the QPR match is also expected to come too soon for centre-back Dan Ballard.
Sunderland handed fresh injury boost
Writing on X, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie said that Sunderland attacker Mayenda is back against QPR after injury, acting as a significant positive for Le Bris.
Having Mayenda back is great news for the Black Cats, giving them even more attacking options that will increase their chances of picking up a good result on Saturday. The 19-year-old hasn’t featured since the 1-0 win at home to Middlesbrough back in late September, but before that he scored and assisted twice apiece in six Championship outings, as well as being handed two Man of the Match awards by WhoScored.
Sky Sports man Patrick Rowe has spoken of his admiration for the teenage attacker, saying: “Mayenda has been excellent today. His movement, hold up play and finishing have all been a class above in this fixture. He’ll be desperate to secure the hat-trick.”
Squad depth is essential for any team with aspirations of making the leap from the Championship to the Premier League, not least in the final third, where having strong attacking options from the substitutes’ bench can make all the difference.
In Mayenda, Sunderland have a brilliant young talent back in the fold, and while he is still clearly an extremely young footballer who isn’t yet the finished article, he has shown this season what he can offer in terms of end product.

It would arguably be a surprise if the Spaniard came straight back into Le Bris’ starting lineup for the QPR game, given his lack of minutes over the past month or so, but a cameo role would be ideal for the Black Cats.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Manchester United's disappointing form has continued to haunt them as Ruben Amorim saw his side draw 1-1 against an out-of-form Real Sociedad at Anoeta Stadium despite taking the lead via Joshua Zirkzee. However, after Mikel Oyarzabal converted his penalty to bring the Basque side level, Garnacho was taken off in place of Christian Eriksen, and the Argentine has been accused of 'sulking' by Red Devils legend Scholes after his substitution.

WHAT SCHOLES SAID
Speaking on TNT Sports, Scholes said: "He looked like he was sulking a little bit to me. I am not having fatigue. I think they are alright. I don't think there are great legs in this Manchester United team.
"Garnacho's biggest strength is running through. Sometimes he makes the wrong decisions but he had a lack of energy and a little bit of sulkiness. He will need to get better as they don’t really have anything else to call on."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Garnacho was also criticized last week for his 'unacceptable' behavior against Ipswich Town after the Argentine winger refused to return to the bench after he was subbed off for Noussair Mazraoui before half-time after Patrick Dorgu's red card. Amorim had then announced that he would hold conversations with the starlet about his behaviour.

WHAT NEXT FOR GARNACHO?
Manchester United will take on Arsenal next up in the Premier League when the two sides meet at Old Trafford on Sunday, March 9, Garnacho is likely to be a starter yet again for Amorim.
Chelsea are flying high in the Premier League, and they could continue to be ruthless in the transfer window as another star is reportedly up for sale ahead midway through the campaign.
Chelsea working with two squads
One of the key themes of Enzo Maresca’s early Chelsea reign has been his quick and brutal dissection of the Chelsea squad into essentially two separate XIs, one for the Premier League and one for other competitions. This was made clear early on, when Cole Palmer and Wesley Fofana were among those left out of the UEFA Conference League squad for the group stages, and has continued in the early part of the campaign.

The likes of Marc Guiu, Christopher Nkunku, Enzo Fernández and João Félix are all firm starters for the Conference League ties, which has seen Chelsea win all four games including an 8-0 thrashing of FC Noah in their most recent outing.
However, Guiu has made just one Premier League appearance and has not even been in the Matchday squad since September, while Nkunku has just one start to his name and is largely used as a substitute, coming on for the final two minutes of his side’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in their most recent outing.
Tyrique George
Though it is unquestionably proving successful at present, it is still to be seen how Maresca may deal with the latter stages of the competitions, when he may wish to revert to a full strength side in the hunt for silverware, and should they qualify for the Champions League next season, the same formula is unlikely to work on Europe’s biggest stage.
It is also seemingly leading to unrest among some of the “B” team, and now one could be set to exit in January.
Midfielder could leave in January
Now, a report from Spain has claimed that midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall could be set to leave the club in January, after only arriving in west London in the summer.
The former Leicester City man followed Maresca to Stamford Bridge, but has played just 43 minutes in the Premier League to date and has only been in one match-day squad in the last six games, underlying his status at the club.

It is a massive drop from being a key player for the Foxes, with Ademola Lookman singing his praises when the pair played together in 2022: “Dewsbury-Hall is an amazing player. His energy, his tenacity is what we need and he’s very valuable to the squad.”
Maresca was keen to praise him after a strong performance against Gent in Europe too, explaining: “I completely understand how difficult it is for Kiernan at this moment. I know when you are the main player and then move to a big club it’s not easy because you’re not the main player, and you’re on the bench or not in the squad.
“Sometimes you struggle a bit at the beginning, but he has to understand the reason he is here is because we want him, so I was very happy for him. The celebration was because I know he needed that.”
He is still under contract until 2029, having penned a five year deal worth £80k per week mere months ago, but already the club are believed to be considering “loaning or even selling him”.
They have reportedly slapped a £30m price tag on his head, and Aston Villa lead the interest in his services, though Unai Emery’s side are only willing to offer a loan deal with an option to buy which would total a sum just short of £20m. Though likely to be an insufficient sum to tempt the Blues into cashing in, the lack of minutes afforded to Dewsbury-Hall is surely a cause for concern.
Nkrumah Bonner played an innings of patience, resilience and reward to mirror his international career with a hard-earned century guiding West Indies to a first-innings lead over England.Bonner fell for 123 shortly before stumps on the third day in Antigua, to the elation of England’s bowlers who had done it tough on a benign pitch against a stubborn West Indies line-up. Veerasammy Permaul offered keen resistance to remain unbeaten on 26 at stumps with Jayden Seales yet to score and the hosts 62 runs ahead. At the age of 33, Bonner raised the second century of his fledgling Test career, which is only 10 matches old and began in February last year – almost a decade after he made his international debut in a T20 against England at the Oval in 2011. Bonner played just one more T20I, in March 2012, before eventually earning a recall to the West Indies set-up, initially in January last year for three ODIs in Bangladesh before playing two Tests on that same tour. His first Test ton had come at the same ground as this one, a similarly attritional 113 not out in a Player-of-the-Match performance in the drawn first Test with Sri Lanka. On this occasion, he batted for nine hours to lead West Indies’ recovery from 127 for 4, build a small but potentially crucial lead and put merciless miles in the legs of an England attack without – no, not – an injured Mark Wood, who disappeared to the changing room shortly before lunch having bowled just five overs for the day and 17 for the match before succumbing to an elbow problem.Bonner resumed on 34 not out and with West Indies 109 runs in arrears, having helped haul the hosts back into the contest in partnership with Jason Holder after the tumble of wickets had all but ruined the solid foundation laid by an 83-run opening stand on day two.Holder fell to Ben Stokes – and his own indecision – early on the third day, adding just two runs to his overnight 43 before making a late move to leave one around off stump and edged a catch to wicketkeeper Ben Foakes, ending his union with Bonner at 79.Stokes almost had Bonner, on 40 at the time, attempting to pull a bouncer which looped towards midwicket, where substitute fielder Ollie Pope dived forward but couldn’t manage to grasp it.Bonner brought up his fifty prodding a single through the covers and he faced another 15 balls for his next scoring shot, launching Wood over the fence at fine leg for six off a top edge.He had a life on 73, when Zak Crawley spilled an edge off Jack Leach at slip, but reached his century off 257 deliveries on the second ball of the evening session, sweeping a Leach half-volley on leg stump behind square for four. Bonner celebrated with a relieved sigh as he embraced Kemar Roach, with whom he ultimately shared a partnership to follow the theme of the day – patience – worth 44 off 173 balls for the eighth wicket. But when Bonner nudged Leach to backward point and the pair dashed off for a single, they were chancing the arm of Pope, who fired the ball to the striker’s end and Foakes removed the bails with Roach just shy of his crease. Roach had provided steadfast support to Bonner, facing 89 balls for his 15 runs.Twice England thought they had Bonner lbw to Leach but they failed to overturn Joel Wilson’s decisions, upheld on umpire’s call with ball-tracking suggesting it was clipping leg stump on both occasions. Bonner was also given out lbw to Stokes on 121 but successfully reviewed after getting an inside edge. They finally broke through when captain Joe Root, running out of ideas, brought Dan Lawrence into the attack to almost immediate effect as Bonner feathered his fifth delivery to Foakes down the leg side, although it took an England review to overturn umpire Gregory Brathwaite’s not-out decision with replays showing the faintest of edges.Stokes ended up bowling 28 overs – with 2 for 42 to show for it – his heaviest innings workload since 2015, having only just returned to bowling after breaking down with a side strain in the fourth Ashes Test.Much had been made of England’s 12-match stretch without breaking the 300-mark before Jonny Bairstow’s century led them to 311 in their first innings here, but West Indies had endured a virtually identical run dating back to the second Test against Sri Lanka in Antigua last March.Their ability to forge partnerships was key as they passed the milestone on Thursday, all but the first one held together by Bonner, on a day when 171 runs were scored from 90.1 overs. His most-substantial stand of the day came with Joshua Da Silva, who wisely reviewed his lbw dismissal to Craig Overton when on 16, but there was no such reprieve shortly after lunch when Leach, who at that point had bowled well for no reward, rapped him on the back pad with one that skidded onto the knee roll. Da Silva’s review failed this time, with replays showing the ball was hitting leg stump, but he had already helped add another 73 valuable runs.
