Pogba is free to play football again starting this month having served an 18-month doping ban which was reduced on appeal. The midfielder is currently a free agent after he mutually terminated his contract with Juventus last November. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to several clubs in the past few months and was even tipped to reunite with ex-Manchester United team-mate Greenwood at Marseille. But club president Longoria has ruled out that possibility.

Speaking to , the Marseille chief said, "We decided not to sign Paul Pogba as a free agent this season. We had conversations… but then we thought that his recovery time could upset the balance of the squad."

The World Cup-winning France star is currently training in Miami as he is gearing up to make a comeback to professional football. Other than Marseille, he has also been linked with moves to MLS and the Saudi Pro League. Former Red Devils star Louis Saha has also urged the Premier League giants to bring the midfielder for a third stint at Old Trafford.

WHAT NEXT FOR PAUL POGBA?

The 32-year-old has not played since September 2023, when he came on as a substitute in a Serie A clash for Juventus against Empoli before his ban was confirmed. He hopes to get back on the pitch soon by finding a new team.

Glenn Maxwell's Test return: 'So nice to get the tap on the shoulder and have the faith I can do a job'

Glenn Maxwell had always held out hope, if not always complete belief, that he would get another chance in Test cricket. But he did not want to tempt fate in Sri Lanka, so did not pack his baggy green. And as it turns out, he’ll need a new one in Galle with the original having not aged well.”I didn’t want to be presumptuous and it turns out I’m glad I didn’t bring it because it’s completely disintegrated,” Maxwell said. “So I’m going to have to get a new one for this Test tour. I’ll look like a first-gamer out there.”My last Test was a win in Bangladesh and [the cap] is full of all sorts of different things. It’s stayed in the little bag that we get. I took it out last year and had a look at it and it was deteriorating, thought that’s not a good sign. My wife took it out yesterday and said ‘I don’t think I can bring this’, it looked terrible, so think when I get home I’ll see if I can get it fixed up but it’s not looking great at the moment.”Maxwell was involved in squads briefly after his last appearance at Chattogram in 2017 – during the Ashes later that year, then as an emergency call-up in Johannesburg amid the ball-tampering scandal – but while it is not certain Maxwell will add to his seven Test caps the odds are narrowing after he was called up following Travis Head’s hamstring injury.Related

Having seen how the pitches played in the ODI series with an expectation of more of the same – and perhaps even greater spin – in the Tests there is an increasing sense that – to quote Liam Neeson in – Maxwell has a very particular set of skills that Australia will need to call on.”I think I bring a lot of experience in these sorts of conditions and being able to tackle good spin bowling in tough conditions,” Maxwell said. “It’s something I pride myself on, having quick feet and being able to find a way through adversity in tough conditions.”Looking back to 2017, being able to get a Test hundred in India is something I’m extremely proud and to be one of only a couple of people in the last decade to do that is something I’m hoping holds me in good stead for this as well. My game plan probably isn’t going to change a whole lot, probably just going to be a little more time consuming, being able to spend more time at the wicket, without any run-rate pressure on and I’m certainly looking forward to that opportunity to bat long periods of time.”Glenn Maxwell will need a new baggy green•Getty Images and Cricket Australia

Maxwell has not played a first-class match since October 19 due to a combination of his extensive role in Australia’s white-ball sides and the impact of Covid-19 on the domestic schedule over the last two years. Before last season, he trained with Victoria ahead of the Sheffield Shield season but believes the conditions in Sri Lanka are so foreign to Australian players that domestic cricket is of limited value.”[I was] always trying to stay ready just in case, knowing there was a fair few subcontinent tours coming up not just this year but next year as well,” he said. “At some stage you think you might give up hope but it’s just so nice to get the tap on the shoulder and have the faith I can do a job for this team.”Even looking at these ODIs, I don’t think anything we do in our domestic competition prepares you for what you are facing out there. It’s so totally alien to us. That’s the hard thing for people trying to pick a squad back home, people might have success against spin in Australia but it just doesn’t compare to over here. It’s doing all sorts. To be able to combat that in different ways, sometimes a play and miss is a good shot, thought we saw that [in the last ODI] with the way Marnus [Labuschagne] and Alex Carey went about their work then Cameron Green at the end.”Maxwell’s addition to the squad also provides another way for Australia to balance up their side with additional spin-bowling depth. It is likely another specialist will partner Nathan Lyon, but Maxwell could have an important role to play while also providing batting depth.”The work I’ve done with the other side of my game, the bowling, being able to contribute regularly with the ball is something I’ve worked really hard on,” he said. “I’ve been lucky to have [spin-bowling coach Sridharan] Sriram follow me in different parts of the world, able to work together at the IPL, and feel like we’ve got a really good grasp on how the ball is coming out of my hand.”With the batting, I just feel really comfortable with where my game’s at, been able to bat continually pretty well in these conditions and my footwork has been reasonable crisp. Certainly looking forward to the next couple of weeks.”

Rangers now leading the race to sign "quality" 22 y/o who Clement loves

Rangers are now leading the race to sign a Scottish Premiership midfielder, having recently ramped up their interest, according to a report.

Rangers struggling against lower opposition

The Gers kicked off 2025 in emphatic fashion, defeating bitter rivals Celtic 3-0 at Ibrox, which should have been a turning point in their season. However, since then, they have struggled against some of the weaker sides in the division.

Philippe Clement’s side have shared the spoils in their last two matches, most recently failing to put Dundee to the sword despite dominating possession, and there is arguably little to no chance of catching Celtic.

Despite some poor results this season, Clement continues to retain the backing of the board, with chief executive Patrick Stewart recently saying: “We are backing Philippe at this time as a board. It’s about taking a deeper look at the issues, addressing those problems, and staying focused on building a stronger future for the club.

“Changing a manager isn’t a silver bullet solution.”

Enquiry made: Rangers could sign a "vastly experienced" Barron upgrade

Rangers could target a player who can potentially leave his club for free

ByRoss Kilvington Jan 11, 2025

If Rangers are going to challenge for the league title next season, however, it is likely that Clement will need to strengthen his squad, and the manager has now identified a major target in midfield.

According to a report from The Sun, the Light Blues are now ramping up their interest in Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract agreement.

Cameron has just a few months left on his contract, meaning the Gers can sign him for free at the end of the season, should Dundee be unable to reach an agreement on a new deal.

Clement is said to be a big fan of the 22-year-old, and there is seemingly a good chance he could be on his way to Ibrox this summer, as Rangers are now leading the race for his signature.

Cameron could replicate Barron at Ibrox

Connor Barron arrived at Ibrox from Aberdeen last summer, and he has quickly gone on to establish himself as an important player, starting the vast majority of Scottish Premiership games this season.

Cameron’s performances for Dundee indicate he could be capable of emulating his Scotland U21s teammate, having put in some top-drawer performances this term. The Scot has picked up eight goals and seven assists in 27 appearances in all competitions, showcasing his versatility by featuring in both attacking and defensive roles, as well as left-midfield.

Football writer Kai Watson has lauded Cameron as a “quality player” for his “excellent” performances this season, while also stating that he is now ready to play for a bigger club.

As such, it is promising news that Rangers are leading the race for his signature, and they should look to get a deal done as soon as possible.

Imagine him & Philogene: Ipswich chase £15m "dream" Igor Jesus upgrade

Much like the first transfer window Ipswich Town found themselves involved in after promotion, this January window looks set to be a busy one for the relegation-threatened side.

After all, this drawn-out month gives them a fantastic opportunity to recruit fresh blood that can help in their ongoing quest to stay put in the Premier League.

Already, Ipswich have signed Ben Godfrey on a loan deal to bolster defensively, with rumours now focusing in on the exciting Suffolk side adding in more firepower up top.

Ipswich's search for a striker

It looks as if Godfrey won’t be the only confirmed signing this early into January either, with Jaden Philogene reportedly joining the building for a £20m fee from Aston Villa to gift McKenna’s men a daring option down the right wing.

Ipswich aren’t done there, however, with the Premier League minnows still in the hunt for Middlesbrough sharp shooter Emmanuel Latte Lath, despite GIVEMESPORT recently revealing that Leeds United are out in front in attempting to land the clinical Ivorian.

Middlesbrough's Emmanuel Latte Lath shoots at goal as Burnley'sJamesTraffordmakes a save

The Whites are now considering lodging a £15m bid to try and win the Boro number nine, but Ipswich won’t be fazed by this new development, hoping that the allure of top-flight football could sway Latte Lath into calling Portman Road his next home before the February deadline is up.

Latte Lath could well strike up a devastating attacking duo with Philogene if a deal is reached, with the tricky winger a superstar in the Championship with Hull City last season, and will now be ready – like his Boro counterpart – to now take the division above by storm.

What Latte Lath could offer Ipswich

Away from Ipswich potentially splashing the cash recklessly on Igor Jesus to join from Botafogo for £30m, the Tractor Boys would win themselves a better bargain for their buck with Latte Lath, considering he is already a potent attacker in the English game.

It would all depend though on whether or not the 26-year-old would be able to handle the step-up, but when you glance at his goalscoring numbers in the EFL to date.

26 of Latte Lath’s strikes for Michael Carrick’s men have come in the bread and butter of the second tier, with ten league goals coming his way this 2024/25 so far to alert teams to his services.

Jesus, meanwhile, has scored just eight times in 31 games for his current side, while there is less risk involved in Latte Lath’s signing considering his lesser price tag, and his blistering numbers to date playing on English shores means he could settle in well to McKenna’s group as another option away from Liam Delap just leading the line.

Equally, as indicated above, Latte Lath also comes out on top with regard to goals per 90, while he also seemingly offers a great physical presence as the first line of defence, as showcased by his superior record with tackles, interceptions and aerial duels won.

With the pair operating in similar level leagues – with the Championship and Brazilian Serie A classed among the ‘next 14 competitions’, outside of Europe’s top five leagues – it does illustrate just what an upgrade the Boro man would be on his Botafogo counterpart.

Likewise, Philogene will pray he finally gets his chance to impress in the big-time at Ipswich, having been used infrequently by Unai Emery at Villa Park.

Indeed, the ex-Hull ace has only been thrown in from the start in league action this season two times, despite setting the second tier alight last campaign at the Tigers.

There was, of course, this outrageous strike that went viral for looping over the Rotherham United goalkeeper’s head, with Philogene registering 12 goals and six assists overall in the Championship.

With a spot down the right wing more open, owing to Wes Burns being the only fit option currently, the reserve Villa figure could become a main spark in the first team when making the switch to Suffolk.

Latte Lath – who was once described as being a “dream to play with” by Boro teammate Luke Ayling – will hope his fair share of first-team opportunities comes about if he joins, with the pair potentially making Ipswich even more threatening in attack ahead of tough games to follow near the foot of the league.

Chanderpaul named USA senior and U-19 women's head coach

Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been appointed the new USA head coach for their senior women’s and the Under-19 women’s teams.USA Cricket announced on Sunday that Chanderpaul had agreed to a contract that begins this week, with the junior squad’s participation in the CWI women’s U-19 Rising Stars T20 Championship in Trinidad, and will run through to the end of 2023. Over that stretch, USA will have appearances in the 2023 T20 World Cup Qualifier, scheduled to take place later this year, as well as the inaugural U-19 Women’s World Cup, where USA will be one of 16 teams competing in South Africa in January.”I am excited to have been appointed as the Head Coach of the USA National Women’s Team and Women’s Under 19 Team,” Chanderpaul said in a USA Cricket press statement. “The Women’s game is something I am a huge advocate of, and I have followed the progress of the USA Women’s National team with keen interest. I’ve enjoyed being involved in American cricket over the years as a resident of Orlando, so to be given this opportunity to become the Head Coach for USA Cricket is an incredible one. I’m really looking forward to using my 20+ years of international cricket and my recent coaching experiences, to help the women’s teams progress to World Cups in years to come, particularly the inaugural Under 19 Cricket World Cup in January.”Chanderpaul replaces former Australia international Julia Price in the position with the senior team and former Pakistan batter Asif Mujtaba with the junior team. Price had been in her role for three years after being brought on board in 2019, but her contract was not renewed earlier this year after USA Cricket announced in May that it would combine the two roles. The body also said that it was seeking someone who would agree to be based in the USA through the year. Price was based in Australia and had travelled back and forth for her commitments during her tenure. Mujtaba, though a Texas resident for more than a decade, has a full-time job in the hospitality industry.Chanderpaul has been living in Orlando, Florida since 2005 and has been involved in local cricket in a big way. He is a long-time member of Sarasota International Cricket Club, which is located just south of Tampa and is also known for counting the late Richie Benaud as a member and official patron of the club.In addition to playing and doing coaching work in Florida, Chanderpaul has made numerous visits over the years with his club to take part in the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival in Pennsylvania.Shivnarine Chanderpaul (center, red shirt) has lived in Florida since 2005 where he has been involved in local coaching•Peter Della Penna

Chanderpaul first hinted at future involvement in USA’s coaching set-up in July 2016 when he went to Lauderhill to take part in a Cricket Australia coaching seminar geared toward North America-based coaches, that coincided with the CPL’s first season of hosting matches in Florida.”Since I’ve been living out here, I’m trying to get involved in the cricket out here and trying to help out as much as I can,” Chanderpaul told ESPNcricinfo in an interview at the time. “All the knowledge that you gain over the years playing international cricket, it’s good to pass that on. I think in the US, it’s a good place where the young [cricketers] need someone like me with the knowledge and experience that I’ve gained over the years to help them out here with the cricket.”Aside from his USA coaching duties, Chanderpaul is also the current head coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs in the CPL, which is slated to run from August 30 through September 30. He has previously served as a batting consultant for the West Indies Men’s U-19 team.”We are thrilled to have attracted someone of Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s caliber to work with both the Women’s Senior and U19 Teams as Women’s Head Coach, and lead them onto the global stage,” Richard Done, USA Cricket operations director, said. “We have an exciting crop of young cricketers, of which many are already making their mark at senior level. Combining the two roles will provide coaching consistency across teams for those players as they develop.”Apart from his distinguished playing career of 454 Test, ODI, and T20I matches, and captaining West Indies, Shivnarine comes to USA Cricket with head coach experience in the CPL, and having worked closely with both male and female elite players in the West Indies, and internationally. This depth of experience will be invaluable, not only in his primary role, but to the development of the wider high-performance player and coaching pathways in the USA. Shivnarine’s passion for the Women’s game and long-standing links with American cricket made him the stand-out candidate from the recruitment process that saw much interest.”

Mark Wood braced for second elbow operation, faces race to be fit for T20 World Cup in Australia

Fast bowler suffers adverse reaction to full-pace appearance for home club Ashington

Vithushan Ehantharajah19-Jul-2022Mark Wood has revealed he is due to undergo a further operation on his troublesome right elbow this week, and will miss the rest of the English summer. He remains hopeful of making the T20 World Cup in Australia which begins in the middle of October.Wood has been out since March after sustaining the injury in the first Test of the tour of West Indies. An operation at the end of that month removed a bone that was blocking the joint, preventing his right arm from straightening.Originally it was hoped that Wood, 32, would return within three months, and his recovery began well until he began encountering further issues in the area. The hope from the ECB and Durham medical teams was that the pain was just part of the rehabilitation process and would eventually subside. He was originally pencilled in for Durham’s Vitality Blast game against Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge on July 1 before he was taken out of consideration in case the elbow had a bad reaction. Following a few sessions at full pace in the Chester-le-Street nets at the end of last week, he turned out for his home club, Ashington Cricket Club, on Saturday and took five wickets against Lanchester Cricket Club.Unfortunately, Wood woke up on Sunday unable to straighten his arm again and, with time running out to be fit for the T20 World Cup, the decision was made to operate again later this week.Related

Mark Wood admits return from elbow surgery is 'slow progress'

“It’s not going well actually,” Wood told Test Match Special during Tuesday’s first ODI against South Africa. “I’m off again for probably more surgery on Saturday. I played a club game to see what it was like when I tested it out, so unfortunately it’s not pulled up well. To be ready for the World Cup, I’m going to have to get that done.”I’ve been bowling for the last two or three weeks in the nets, top speed also off my full run-up. But it just seems to keep deteriorating. When I played that club game it was an indication in a match of how does it actually feel. The next day… I can straighten my left arm fully, but my right arm is still sort of bent a little bit.”The setback is another blow to England’s fast bowling stocks, with Jofra Archer’s recovery from a stress fracture of his back still uncertain. Olly Stone, the other 90-plus mph option, has been working his way back in the Blast with Birmingham Bears.Wood remains hopeful of making it to Australia, even if he is unsure of the exact issue. The need to get to the heart of the problem stems from the fact that each strong session would require a period of recovery, making back-to-back sessions impossible.”It’s not so much at the time,” Wood said. “It’s more the day after. If I had to back it up or if I was in the tournament, for example, it would knock me back four or five games, or days.”That’s why it’s crunch week this week. That’s why I’ve been building it up so much. But this week it needed a decision, so that’s why I played the club cricket. Unfortunately it hasn’t been good. The frustration for me is I’ve done everything everyone has asked. It’s just not giving me a break.”

Offer made: Club make £16m+ January bid to sign "outstanding" Fulham star

Fulham could be set for a fight to keep hold of one of their star men after it emerged that one has tabled an offer to take him away from Marco Silva’s side in January.

Fulham impressing in the Premier League

Though they were held to a goalless draw by Southampton in their most recent outing, it has been a strong start to the season for Fulham, who recruited aggressively over the summer.

Currently 9th, Fulham have lost just once in their last nine Premier League games, falling to a 4-1 defeat against relegation-threatened Wolves. In that time, they have held both Arsenal and Liverpool to draws, while they face Chelsea on Boxing Day hoping to go one better against their west London rivals.

It comes after Silva’s side broke their transfer record to sign Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe in the most recent transfer window, also adding Sander Berge to their midfield ranks and re-signing Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace, with the trio giving the Cottagers a new-look spine.

But their form has not gone unnoticed, and players are beginning to catch the eye of bigger clubs, with Antonee Robinson the chief suspect amid reported interest from Liverpool in the USMNT star. He is not the only man strongly linked with a move away from west London in the months ahead though.

Club make £16m+ bid for Fulham star

Now, reports in Brazil [via Sport Witness] claim that Fulham are set to be offered the chance to cash in on chief creator Andreas Pereira this winter amid interest from Brazilian outlet Palmeiras.

Pereira hit the headlines in recent weeks for suggesting a move away from Craven Cottage would be “very cool”.

“It would be very cool [to go to Marseille], the way [Roberto] De Zerbi plays soccer. I was watching it with good eyes, but let’s see now in January or at the end of the season if there will be a transfer or if I will stay at Fulham”, he told the media in comments he later claimed were not accurate.

Palmeiras are a potential destination for the Brazilian. Previous reports revealed that the Brazil side had offered a swap deal to try and tempt the Cottagers into selling the ex-Manchester United talent involving Vitor Reis or Richard Rios, but now it is added that this deal was rejected and a fresh offer has been proposed.

This offer, without a player, consists of a flat fee of €20m [£16.5m], which could be raised to €22m [£18.2m] if Fulham reject the initial offer. The initial report claimed that Fulham were holding out for €30m [£25m], which suggests that the new bids may well be rejected out of hand by Silva’s side, though it is claimed that “Palmeiras are optimistic of reaching an agreement” over the midfielder.

Any sale would come as a big loss to Silva’s side, with Pereira among the top players in the Premier League when it comes to creating chances this season. Only five players provide more shot creating actions than the Brazilian, and though he is yet to register an assist he should have managed two according to expected goals.

Silva is also well aware of his qualities, dubbing him “outstanding” back in 2022 after his arrival at Craven Cottage. “He has been outstanding this season. I know a lot of people had doubts when I decided to sign him but I knew his qualities and his character“, he told Sky Sports.

However, with his £50,000 a week deal set to expire in 2026, his value is only decreasing and Fulham may well look to cash in on him sooner rather than later in a bid to still turn a profit.
