Earns as much as Amad: Man Utd must axe flop who's cost over £40m

Manchester United forward Amad Diallo has been out of action since February with an ankle injury and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

The Ivorian starlet had been one of the standout performers for Ruben Amorim’s side in the Premier League before the season-ending injury blow, with nine goals and seven assists in all competitions from a wide position.

United will be hoping that he can return from injury to carry that form into the 2025/26 campaign and beyond, as he could be a future star for the club.

Where Amad Diallo ranks in Man Utd's top earners

Despite his impressive form for the Red Devils this season, Amad is not among the top few earners within the squad with his weekly wage of £120k.

As you can see in the table below, the left-footed wizard only just cracks the top ten list, below the likes of Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount, who have either been bit-part players or unavailable for most of the season.

Wage Burners

Football FanCast’s Wage Burners series explores the salaries of the modern-day game.

His current deal is due to run out at the end of June and Amorim should cut him from the group, because he has already drained the club of millions in wages throughout his career so far.

How much money Victor Lindelof has earned at Man Utd

Manchester United swooped to sign the centre-back from Benfica for a reported fee of £31m in the summer of 2017, and the defender has earned even more than that transfer fee in wages in the subsequent eight years.

As you can see in the table above, Lindelof has already earned over £40m in wages during his time at Old Trafford to date, and will have earned a reported £46.64m in wages by the end of his contract this year.

That is a sum of £77.64m in total, including his transfer fee, and the 30-year-old has only played 30 or more league matches in two of his eight seasons in Manchester.

He has only started two of his eight appearances in the Premier League this season and has been an unused substitute 11 times across all competitions, which shows that the experienced defender is a bit-part player at best under Amorim.

Compare that to Amad Diallo’s importance to the team, with his aforementioned goals and assists, on the same weekly wage and that shows why United must finally part ways with the Sweden international this summer.

He's ideal for Amorim: Man Utd could make £67m bid for "incredible" striker

The Red Devils are now willing to make a huge offer for a forward, who fits Amorim’s system “perfectly”.

ByDominic Lund Mar 27, 2025

Amorim should move him on from Old Trafford when his contract expires, as he has not provided good value for the wage the club are paying him, and attempt to bring in a replacement that will be a part of his plans moving forward.

PCB wants four out of 13 Asia Cup matches to be played in Pakistan

The PCB’s hybrid model solution to the Asia Cup will see four out of 13 matches being played in Pakistan with the rest – including the final – to be played at a neutral venue, which could be the UAE. Najam Sethi, the board head, told BBC’s podcast that he was still hopeful of the tournament being played in Pakistan, despite two Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members raising objections to a hybrid solution and the more intractable problem of India not being given permission to travel to Pakistan. He also added that if the hybrid model worked during the Asia Cup, it could pave the way for it to be used in the one-day World Cup, to be held later this year in India. Given the fraught and tense relations between India and Pakistan, Sethi said there is a “distinct possibility” that the Pakistan government doesn’t allow Pakistan to travel to India.Sethi held a meeting with ACC officials in Dubai on Tuesday to try and find a solution to the issues, and he believes the PCB has “bent over backwards” to accommodate the various concerns. “The proposal that I submitted three days ago takes care of all this,” he said. “We play four matches in Pakistan, the teams come straight here and then everybody moves to the neutral venue wherever that may be. We play the rest of games there. I made the concession that in the event we get to the final we play the final in a neutral venue, whether against India or anyone else. We’ve bent over backwards to solve all these issues.”Keeping four matches in Pakistan, ESPNcricinfo understands, is to ensure the PCB’s long-term strategy of high-profile international cricket and the hosting of tournaments in Pakistan continues uninterrupted.”My mandate given to me by the government and by the media and by the people of Pakistan is that this has to be an honourable and reciprocal arrangement,” Sethi said. “We are happy to play in the Asia Cup but it can’t be that India refuses to come to Pakistan and then doesn’t allow us to even host few of our matches at a neutral venue. Don’t forget immediately after the Asia Cup, we have the World Cup coming and it’s going to be in India and it’s an ICC event. What happens if India doesn’t come to Pakistan or India torpedoes my hybrid model? I don’t think my government will allow me to go to India to play the World Cup.”The idea of this hybrid solution, and the possibility of the neutral leg being played in the UAE has not gone down well with the boards of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They have raised logistic and operational objections as well as the heat in the UAE at that time of the year. Sethi insisted that as the host country, it was up to the PCB to decide where the neutral venue should be.”I am quite surprised that this idea is being floated unofficially by Sri Lanka and by Bangladesh,” he said. “In the last ACC meeting, which was about a month ago, we all agreed that it was imperative that Pakistan play the Asia Cup and without Pakistan there will be no Asia Cup. Nearly 80% of the revenues of the Asia Cup are from India-Pakistan matches of which, the way the schedule is structured, we play at least two of those and possibly three if we are both in final. The only objection Bangladesh made was that it’s going to be too hot in September in the UAE and that would be a problem. Then the other issue was logistics. The proposal that I submitted takes care of all logistic problems.”The PCB has also been keen to point out that both the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Asia Cup were played in the UAE in September.According to Sethi, time is running out to make a decision. The board, he said, required three months to prepare. “We need to reserve venues in the UAE or Sri Lanka or wherever we decide. Time has already run out, the ACC has to make a decision. We have made our position clear. I had a meeting with a high level ACC interlocutor two days ago in Dubai. He liked it, he said it is eminently workable. He said he would go back to [BCCI secretary and ACC president] Jay Shah and talk to him.”We need to resolve the first issue [of accepting the hybrid solution] and then we can sit across a table and decide where to play. We will be reasonable. The interolocuter said I have briefed Jay Shah about our meeting, he’s okay with it. He now wants to check with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. So let’s see where this goes.”As has been the case throughout the protracted negotiations of where this tournament ends up, Sethi raised the spectre of the consequences in case the worst happens with the Asia Cup. “There is a very distinct possibility [of Pakistan not playing in the World Cup] if we do not come to any solutions right now. I raised this issue in the ACC meeting we had in Bahrain and I invited the ICC chairman [Greg Barclay] to come and sit with us and hear what we are talking about.”The idea being that if the hybrid model works here, then we could well make it work in the World Cup. Meaning the Pakistan matches could be held in Bangladesh or the UAE, one hop away and we can sort it out and all other games in India. Why can’t India come to Pakistan and play? If India comes to Pakistan and plays, then we can go there and play and this matter will be resolved.”

49ers will love him: Rangers must hire "fantastic" manager who knows Wilson

Rangers’ miserable season continues.

On Saturday, the Gers’ five-match winning streak in the Premiership came to an abrupt halt, with Philippe Clement’s men miserably beaten 2-0 by St Mirren, as the Buddies departed Ibrox victorious for the first time since 1991.

This means the Light Blues remain a whopping 13 points adrift run-away Premiership leaders Celtic, with very little to play for domestically, having also been dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park, beaten at home in that competition by a club from a lower division for the first time in their entire history.

Thus, the pressure continued to intensify on Clement and amid a potential takeover, the Belgian has finally been given his marching orders by the club’s hierarchy.

The latest on Rangers' proposed takeover

As first reported by Keith Jackson of the Daily Record, the ownership group behind NFL franchise the San Francisco 49ers are attempting to take over Rangers, with discussions over a multi-million-pound investment at ‘an advanced stage’.

Meantime, according to a report by Sahil Jaidka and Tim Thornton of Sky Sports, Paraag Marathe is a key figure involved in the current talks; he is the 49ers President.

Ewan Paton of the Herald claims the new owners are planning to invest ‘heavily’, while Matthew Elder of the Scotsman believes the proposed takeover would be ‘transformational’ for the club.

The 49ers ownership group are already involved in British football, paying £170m to purchase 44% of Leeds United back in July 2023, with the Whites currently top of England’s second tier, on course to get back into the Premier League.

Graeme McGarry of the Glasgow Times believes that supporters are ‘right to be excited’, although this is unlikely to be good news for Clement.

Glenn Moore of the Independent notes that ‘new owners always want their own man’, suggesting that Clement is likely to be replaced, with decisive action required, given that next season is set to start early for Rangers, on course to enter the Champions League in the second qualifying round on 22/23 July.

So, could the new owners appoint a highly experienced manager to spearhead the new era?

Rangers' potential Clement replacement

According to a report by Keith Wyness of Football Insider, Sean Dyche could be one of the candidates Rangers are considering to replace Clement, adding that he ‘would be great’ and that this appointment would ‘go down well’.

Everton manager Sean Dyche

As noted by Mark Pirie of the Daily Record, Dyche worked with Ross Wilson, Rangers’ now former sporting director at Watford, and had suggested he would be interested in the job before.

Meanwhile, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Dyche, who was his boss at Burnley, would be a ‘brilliant appointment’, adding he is “an extremely experienced… great man-manager”.

Everton manager Sean Dyche

Elsewhere, Robbie Hanratty of the Glasgow Times claims Dyche’s potential arrival is ‘generating considerable buzz’, so is this justified? Well, let’s analyse the 53-year-old’s managerial career so far.

On paper, Dyche’s managerial career doesn’t leap off the page, but in context, he’s achieved plenty.

Former Stoke, and many others, manager Tony Pulis believes the Englishman did an “absolutely fantastic job” at Burnley, keeping, as outlined by Andy Hunter of the Guardian, a side with the smallest budget in the Premier League in the top division for six successive seasons.

As noted by Ryan Benson of Opta’s the Analyst, Dyche has ‘built a reputation [for] punching above his weight’ so, as the financial gulf between Celtic and Rangers continues to widen, could he be the man to help close this gap?

Well, he’s recently been sacked by Everton but he’s certainly well-used to operating on a shoestring budget so could just be the man to thrive in Scottish football.

+ VEJA A TABELA DO BRASILEIRÃO

Rashford replacement: Man Utd in late talks to sign amazing Tel alternative

Deadline Day is always a frantic day for transfers, with every club up and down the country aiming to complete last-minute deals to try and set them in good stead for the remainder of the campaign.

It’s likely that Manchester United will be no different with Ruben Amorim having one last opportunity to make his own impact on the first-team squad to try and make a success of his stint in charge at the club.

Patrick Dorgu appears to be the 40-year-old’s first major signing at Old Trafford, after completing the formalities of his move over the weekend.

The deal for the Dane massively improves the manager’s options at left-back, a position that has undoubtedly been a huge issue for the new boss over the first couple of months at the helm.

However, the youngster could be joined at the Theatre of Dreams by one talent who’s emerged on the club’s radar ahead of tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Man United plotting deadline day move for PL star

Ahead of the deadline, United have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tel. However, he’s not the only player touted with a late switch. According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Man United are in talks over a deadline day move to sign Aston Villa star Leon Bailey in a bid to improve Amorim’s options within the final third.

The Jamaica international has featured 20 times in the Premier League to date, only registering one goal and two assists, often relying on minutes off the substitutes bench.

The journalist claims that the hierarchy have held talks over a deal to land the 27-year-old, but that other options remain on the table ahead of tonight’s deadline.

Bailey, who cost Villa £25m back in 2021, has made 137 appearances during his time in the West Midlands, but their recent transfer activity could spell the end of his time at the club.

Any move for the attacker would allow the Red Devils to land a player who would prove to be an upgrade on a talent who looks set to move in the opposite direction as part of a separate transfer.

Why Bailey would be a great Rashford replacement for Man United

United academy graduate Marcus Rashford looks set to finally get the move which he’s been touted with all month after agreeing terms with Villa over a loan move until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Englishman has been regularly linked with a move away from his boyhood club over the last few weeks, after boss Amorim constantly left him out of his first-team squad due to his attitude in training.

However, the 27-year-old looks set to gain the valuable game time needed to showcase his talents, looking to aid Unai Emery’s side in their quest for another year of Champions League football.

It’s been confirmed that the Villans will pay 70% of his wages during his time in the Midlands, whilst also having a £40m option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

However, with Rashford moving and Bailey potentially moving in the other direction, United would potentially be getting themselves an upgrade on the academy graduate.

The Jamaican, who’s previously been dubbed “incredible” by journalist Bence Bocsak, may have registered fewer combined goals and assists, but he is more effective in other areas of the pitch, notably registering more progressive carries and passes per 90 – highlighting the threat he possesses in the final third.

He’s also managed to complete more successful take-ons, subsequently registering a higher success rate, showcasing his ability to take the ball past the opposition, handing his teammates increased opportunities.

Whilst it’s unclear whether any deal for the attacker would be a loan or permanent deal, it’s one that could provide Amorim with the added threat and quality he’s been desiring in recent months.

Villa’s recent activity in the market undoubtedly leaves Bailey with an opportunity to leave, potentially being the perfect attacking player to come in and replace Rashford after his own move away from Old Trafford this month.

Moyes reveals £40k-p/w Everton ace could now leave Goodison Park this month

One Everton player may well be leaving the club this month, David Moyes has confirmed in the wake of his side’s defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Everton hunting a forward

With relegation from the Premier League an increasingly real possibility for the Toffees this season, the new owners have decided to act, sacking Sean Dyche and reappointing David Moyes into the Goodison Park dugout.

Everton’s next five PL fixtures

Brighton (Away)

Leicester (Home)

Liverpool (Home)

Crystal Palace (Away)

With that, they are also expected to make funds available for the January transfer window, with David Ornstein explaining that a couple of new faces were expected on Merseyside this month.

“There is some money being made available by the new ownership, The Friedkin Group, led by Dan and Ryan Friedkin, but they still have to comply with profitability and sustainability rules. There is some work to do there. I think we could see a couple of new faces come in, certainly on the attacking side, maybe one for the here and now ready to hit the ground running. Maybe one for the future as well.”

Now, reports have linked the Toffees with a move for free agent Willian, as well as a new striker, with both Tom Cannon and Evan Ferguson among those who have been mooted with a switch to Goodison Park, and David Moyes crying out for more firepower in the wake of the defeat to Aston Villa.

“I can definitely see we are lacking a level of quality that will give us opportunities or make us more goals or score more goals which we’d like to address if we can do that,” he explained after the game. But first, Everton may be forced to cut one player’s stay at Goodison Park short.

Everton set to terminate Broja loan

That comes in the shape of Chelsea loanee striker Armando Broja, who arrived injured and has picked up yet another serious problem that could see his loan terminated. The Albanian was signed for the 24/25 campaign on an initial loan move with an option to buy, but injury meant that he only made his debut in December and has managed just 158 minutes of Premier League action.

Former Everton coach Frank Lampard was full of praise for the Albanian: “He’s fast, strong, has a real eye for goal and he’s a very, very good young player.”

However, he has not had the chance to show that at Goodison Park and now a fresh problem means that he may well never be able to.

Armando Broja for Everton

Stretchered off in the FA Cup Third Round win over Peterborough United, he is now set for another prolonged absence, leaving Moyes admitting that his loan deal could be cut short.

“We think he’s going to be out for somewhere between 10-12 weeks. It’s his ankle ligaments. It’ll probably mean there’s a possibility that he will have to go back to Chelsea,” the Everton boss revealed.

Such a timeframe would see him miss the majority of the remainder of the season, but his return to Chelsea will open up more options this month for Everton. That is because they will be able to recruit another Premier League player on loan amid links to Evan Ferguson, while they will also be free of Broja’s £40,000 a week wages, which could allow some much-needed further investment elsewhere.

Celtic could sign £7m "diamond" to replace McGregor long-term

On Sunday, Celtic defeated their fierce rivals in the League Cup Final at Hampden, prevailing on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The Hoops fell behind on the cusp of half time, only for quick-fire goals from Greg Taylor and Daizen Maeda to fire Brendan Rodgers’ men in front.

Celtic managerBrendanRodgerscelebrates with the trophy after winning the League Cup

Rangers did hit back, but Nicolas Kühn then seemingly won it for those donning green and white, only for the Gers to equalise straight away, almost immediately from kick off.

To penalties we went, for only the second time in Old Firm history, with the Celts converting all five spot-kicks, meaning just one save from Kasper Schmeichel was enough to see Rodgers’ side regain the trophy.

Callum McGregor hoisted the League Cup high into the Glasgow night sky, maintaining his record of having won all 14 cup finals in which he’s featured, with the Celtic skipper taking his tally to 23 major honours overall; only current teammate James Forrest and Lisbon Lion Bobby Lennox, both 25, are more decorated in Celtic’s illustrious history.

With McGregor now 31-years old, having retired from international duty earlier this year, his club side may be looking to the future in that position too.

Celtic looking at new midfielder

As reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Celtic are amongst a number of clubs interested in signing Benjamin Tahirović from Ajax.

Di Marzio also mentions PAOK Thessaloniki, Lazio and Fiorentina as potential suitors, noting that Tahirović’s priority would be to return to Serie A, having previously appeared for Roma, although a move elsewhere is far from off the table.

The 21-year-old is very highly rated, described by Jacek Kulig, who runs Football Talent Scout, as a midfield “diamond”.

After two seasons with I Giallorossi, Tahirović joined Ajax for £7m in June 2023, making 37 appearances during his debut campaign with the Amsterdam-based giants although, this season, he’s featured on only three occasions, out of favour since the appointment of head coach Francesco Farioli.

Having been born in Sweden, Tahirović has become a regular for Bosnia & Herzegovina, debuting against Iceland during Euro qualifying, before featuring in each of the Golden Lilies’ last eight internationals, taking his tally to 14 caps.

Where Benjamin Tahirović would fit in at Celtic

Tahirović has almost exclusively been deployed as a number six in front of the back-line for Roma and Ajax, as well as by Bosnia, meaning, should he move to Celtic, he’d need to displace the club captain, so let’s see how the duo compare.

As outlined in the table, McGregor and Tahirović have very similar profiles: playmakers who dictate play from deep.

Since the start of last season, for club and country, the youngster attempted more passes and had more touches, despite playing little over half the number of minutes, while the pair are comparable in terms of pass completion %, tackles and interceptions.

When the time comes, replacing McGregor is going to be nigh-on impossible for Celtic.

The same was said when Scott Brown left in 2021, departing having made 615 appearances, winning 23 trophies over 14 seasons, but McGregor has taken on the mantle of captain magnificently.

Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor.

The Hoops have tried in the past to sign McGregor back-ups, but have never found one of the requisite quality.

Oliver Abildgaard (remember him?) filled in there when the captain was sidelined due to a knee injury, but departed having made a mere nine appearances, while Tomoki Iwata was sold to Birmingham last summer, having also failed to nail down a starting spot.

Tahirović is highly-rated and, should he move to the Scottish champions, he’ll have to be if he’s to earn a starting spot ahead of the skipper.

The race is on between two current League One rivals to secure themselves a standing among the elite of English football. Both have spent big while piecing together the most ambitious of projects, with neither shying away from lofty ultimate goals.

Birmingham are slightly better placed at present to bounce through the Championship, as a more established EFL outfit in recent times, but Wrexham have enjoyed a meteoric rise under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – with a historic third-successive promotion on the cards.

DID YOU KNOW?

Birmingham boast NFL legend Tom Brady among their investors and are closing in on the third-tier title this season. The obvious question is, with the Red Dragons and Blues aiming high, who will reach the Premier League first?

Getty/GOALWHAT FORMER EFL STAR TURNED PUNDIT SAID

Quizzed on whether either will be at that level by 2030, former EFL star turned pundit David Prutton told : "I have absolutely no idea! Five years ago we were walking round in masks and not able to talk to people, so who knows where we are going to be.

"These two teams… Birmingham are seemingly on course to get into the Championship, Wrexham are not too far behind, but nowhere near as certain at this moment in time.

"Both have as decent a chance as any other team they are going to come up against in the Championship. Both are on financially sound footing with the take-overs, both look to be ambitious, highly-motivated clubs. Show me a team who is not exactly the same as that in the Championship! Yes, some are in less sound financial states, some will have better players, some will have a deeper history at the very top level.

"So going into that, the prediction for future is that I have absolutely no idea, but they have as good a chance as any of the multitude of very good football clubs that stand between them and the Premier League right now."
