Ele exaltou a qualidade no banco do Brasil.

Jandrei; Ferraresi, Luizão e Léo; Rafinha, Gabriel Neves, Galoppo e Wellington; Marquinhos Guilherme, Luciano e Bustos.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Having already wrapped up transfers for Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, City had targeted Lyon's Cherki to reinforce their attack. Cherki, who has 12 goals and 20 assists in all competitions, was also a target for City's rivals Liverpool and German club Borussia Dortmund. The good relationship between Lyon and City means that the English side may send McAtee or Echeverri the other way on a one-year loan. McAtee, 22, wants to have more playing time and Lyon could provide a perfect platform for the player to get some much-needed experience under his belt.

Liverpool ready to trigger £125m clause to sign 124-goal striker over Isak

Liverpool are ready to trigger a £125m release clause to sign a free-scoring striker over Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Isak helps Newcastle to EFL Cup final win over Liverpool

The Reds suffered Wembley heartbreak in the final of the EFL Cup against Newcastle, with Arne Slot’s side losing 2-0 to the Magpies.

A Dan Burn header on the stroke of half-time was followed up by an effort from Isak in the second half, with Federico Chiesa’s late goal only proving to be a consolation.

Liverpool are planning for significant changes in the transfer market this summer.

1 ByAngus Sinclair Mar 19, 2025

There has been talk of FSG signing a new striker this summer, and Fabrizio Romano has recently claimed that Liverpool have made contact with Isak’s representatives. However, Arsenal are also keen on the Sweden international, who is valued at up to £160m.

“Newcastle keep insisting in private and in public that they want to keep Alexander Isak. They hope to be in the Champions League next season but, in any case, they want to keep Alexander Isak at the club, so that’s the message from Newcastle. But I keep telling you that big, big, massive proposals will come to the table for Alexander Isak because Arsenal will be there, Arsenal want Isak.

“[Benjamin] Sesko is the other name on the list but, for sure, Isak and Sesko are the main names. Liverpool are also there for Alexander Isak, they already made some contacts with people close to the player, so both clubs are interested in Alexander Isak. For Arsenal, he is the absolute top target. For Liverpool, he’s one of names they are considering in that position.”

Another attacker on the Reds’ radar is Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

alvarez-atletico-madrid

There have been reports that Liverpool were lining up a club-record bid to sign the former Man City star, and a new update has now emerged.

Liverpool ready to trigger £125m clause to sign Julian Alvarez

According to a report from Spain, Liverpool are planning to spend €300m (£250m) on three new signings this summer. The three players in question are Alvarez, attacking midfielder Xavi Simons and centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.

Alvarez looks set to be the most expensive of the trio, with the report claiming that Liverpool are ‘prepared to pay’ his €150m (£125m) release clause.

It is added that the Argentine’s ‘ability to play in various attacking positions makes him an ideal fit for Slot’, and it looks as if a £125m move is on the cards.

The Atletico Madrid man has impressed in his first season under Diego Simeone, scoring 23 goals and registering five assists in 44 appearances, taking his career tally to 144 goals.

Azeem Rafiq: 'Cricket is in denial' about problem of racism

Former allrounder also hits out at coverage of his allegations by

Andrew Miller13-Dec-2022Azeem Rafiq, the former Yorkshire allrounder, has warned that English cricket remains “in denial” about the extent of the institutional racism in the sport, 13 months on from his powerful testimony at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Parliamentary select committee.Returning to Westminster for his second appearance before the DCMS committee, Rafiq told how he and his family had been forced to leave the UK due to harassment, and claimed that some members of the sport’s establishment – including sections of the media and senior figures at the ECB – have sought to discredit him, rather than address the issues he raised.”If I was to look at 13 months on from me opening my heart out, all that’s changed really is that me and my family have been driven out of the country,” he told the committee. “And that’s a sad element of it.”I would love to come here and tell you how much cricket has changed, but unfortunately what it feels like is that cricket is very much in denial. There are still a group of people out there who feel like cricket is the victim in this.”Related

ECB chair: Racism review will prove 'challenging' for English cricket

Despite receiving widespread coverage and recognition for his testimony in November 2021, in which he said that he lost his career to racism, Rafiq said that the abuse he had received since that hearing – which has included an instance of a man defecating outside his parents’ house – would make it all the more unlikely that other whistleblowers will come forward in the future.”The way I’ve been attacked and abused, why would you speak out?” he said. “I’ve got a little hope in the new [ECB] leadership, but it’s very little at the minute.”I haven’t felt supported at all. In the last couple of months, I have received 24/7 security, but I have been forced to leave. Providing of security has been good throughout, but there was no protection at times.”I have felt even the ECB has been involved in the leaking and planting of stories about me. My medical information and data has been shared. I have made that point to the new chair [Richard Thompson].”I have felt that when there has been any chance to discredit my experiences, even the ECB has tried to do that. For me, I don’t think it’s about individuals. The structural problems within cricket are a lot bigger.”Rafiq added that the Yorkshire Post‘s coverage of his case had been a significant factor in his decision to move his family to Pakistan, a notion backed up by another witness at the hearing, George Dobell – the former ESPNcricinfo senior correspondent who now writes for The Cricketer – who accused the Post of providing “a voice for the racist”.”I have been forced to leave, and one reason that has happened was the ‘s writing,” Rafiq said. “I would be willing to sit down with them [the paper’s editors] as the Jewish community have with me.”Responding to the remarks, the Post’s editor James Mitchinson told the paper he denied the “scurrilous and unfounded allegations”, adding that the Post has been “seeking to tell all sides of the story” with “objectivity, impartiality and professionalism”.Rafiq’s frustrations were shared by the former fast bowler Jahid Ahmed, who also spoke out about his own experience of racism at Essex last year.”I don’t think much has changed to be honest,” Jahid said “I’ve been very frustrated for over a year now since I spoke out. I received no support whatsoever from anyone really.”I’m a victim, I don’t feel like I get any support from anyone at moment. Whether they care, I don’t know because it seems like I haven’t received much support.”

Essex said in a statement that they had commissioned an independent investigation and report from Katharine Newton KC in the wake of allegations made by Jahid, as well as former team-mates Maurice Chambers and Zoheb Sharif.”As the investigation is close to completion and it is the club’s intention – through a commitment to transparency – that the report will be published to its fullest extent possible, it would therefore be inappropriate to prejudge any of its findings or make any further comment,” the club said.Lord Kamlesh Patel, the Yorkshire chairman, added his own criticisms of the ECB’s inaction on the issue, accusing them of failing to support him when he was implementing urgent reforms to the club last year in the face of impending bankruptcy, and praising Rafiq’s perseverance in the face of relentless attacks on his character.”If I was an individual who wasn’t a member of the House of Lords and hadn’t had any sort of leadership experience, you would walk away,” Patel said.”I don’t know how Azeem gets the strength to carry on. You would just run. In the public eye, we get flak [but] this is relentless. And this is from an area where you don’t expect it – this is sport, for God’s sake.”Individuals who have just been [making] a concerted attack, I do not think people understand, I don’t think the ECB has got it.”Back in June, and in the wake of his testimony, the ECB charged seven individuals at Yorkshire as well as the county itself, but the scheduled hearing of the Cricket Discipline Commission has been postponed to the new year, following an appeal into the decision to hold the process in the public domain.Responding to the issues raised at the hearing, the ECB acknowledged that there was still “much more work to do” to tackle discrimination within the sport, but hoped that the findings of the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC), also expected in the new year, would provide further recommendations.”We condemn discrimination of any form and we applaud the bravery of those including Azeem and Jahid Ahmed who have spoken out about their experiences,” the ECB added.”The investigations and disciplinary process regarding their allegations are complex and thorough and take considerable time given the number of allegations and parties, the extensive time period involved, and the number of potential witnesses engaged. We are working to conclude both cases as quickly as possible.”We welcome the change that Lord Patel is leading at Yorkshire CCC and support his vision of making the club one that everyone in the county can be proud of. We are appalled at the level of racist abuse he has also received and recognise the pain this has caused him.”

Wow: Man Utd chiefs are now willing to pay the £49m fee for Barcelona star

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on a “leader” and INEOS are willing to spend big to secure his transfer, according to a recent report.

Man Utd transfer news

Ruben Amorim knows that while he has the understanding and support from the fanbase, he also needs to start winning games despite the injury crisis he now finds himself in. The Red Devils still have the FA Cup and Europa League to play for, but he is fast losing the leeway he was afforded on arrival.

INEOS now consider hijacking transfer to sign £40m playmaker for Man Utd

Man Utd are weighing up whether to join the transfer battle to sign a talented midfielder.

ByBrett Worthington Feb 19, 2025

And as the season draws closer and closer to the end, transfer stories are starting to heat up and the summer is expected to be a busy time for the club, with the boss in desperate need of players who suit his system.

Signing a new attacking midfielder could be on the agenda for Amorim and INEOS this summer, as it’s been reported that United are considering making a move to sign Charles De Ketelaere from Atalanta. Man City are looking at the playmaker as someone to replace Kevin de Bruyne, but United are also interested and could look to beat their rivals to his signature.

However, De Ketelaere is not the only attacking midfielder being looked at by the Red Devils, as according to reports from Spain, United are willing to spend significant money to sign Arda Güler from Real Madrid.

The Turkey international has struggled to make an impact in Spain and, given his lack of game time, a move could be on the cards this summer and United are interested in a deal.

Man Utd taking a closer look at £49m "leader"

But Guler is not the only player United are looking at from La Liga, as according to a report from Spain, Man United are taking a close look at Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, who could be available for a transfer if a suitable offer arrives.

Barcelona'sRonaldAraujo

Araujo only signed a new contract with the Catalan giants in January, a deal that now runs until 2031, but given Barça value the player between 60-70 million euros (£49-57 million), a fee that isn’t a problem to United, he could still leave the club after his career in Catalonia stalled somewhat due to injuries.

The 25-year-old, who has been hailed as a “real leader” by manager Hansi Flick this season, has been at Barcelona since August 2018. It wasn’t until 2020 that he was promoted to the first team and, since then, he has become an integral part of their defence under the various managers they have had in that time.

This season has been a bit disappointing for the centre-back, as a hamstring injury has seen him miss the majority of the campaign up until recently.

Despite his injury problems this season, United are obviously impressed with what they have seen of Araujo, and they believe he’ll improve their backline, so much so they are willing to meet the reported price tag.

Given Lisandro Martínez could be out for the rest of the year, Victor Lindelof looks set to leave at the end of the season and Jonny Evans is expected to retire, then a new centre-back may be needed to help Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Harry Maguire, all of whom have had their own injury problems.

Dravid: With Virat, people get a bit obsessed with statistics

Hear it loud and clear. Rahul Dravid is not concerned over Virat Kohli’s form and while people on the outside may be “a bit obsessed with his statistics and numbers”, the people on the inside know their former captain is worth much more than the fifties and hundreds he can score.”He played very well in the last match [against Hong Kong], and we are happy with his performance,” Dravid said. “He is also coming back after a gap of almost a month. It’s nice to the see that he has come back fresh and that he is looking forward to playing every game. Not that he wasn’t looking forward to playing every game earlier.”Related

In a chat with prior to the Asia Cup, Kohli had touched upon the reasons for his lack of runs. He was point blank when he said, he had been “trying to fake intensity a bit” in his determination to keep playing. At the time, Kohli also opened up about how the demands of his schedule had affected his love for training, something that “disturbed” him and made him realise he needed “to step away” for some time.It appears to have worked. India captain Rohit Sharma saw a freshness to Kohli when the team first got together for this tournament in the UAE and Dravid agreed with that assessment.”Sometimes with Virat, he is just one of those guys who is always on,” Dravid said. “It’s not that earlier he was not. It’s nice, I’m glad he has had that opportunity to take a break, come back refreshed and relaxed. He’s got a chance to be out in the middle, spend some time in the middle. Hopefully from here he can kick on have a really good tournament.”Kohli has made scores of 35 and 59* in two knocks so far. His innings against Pakistan had all the Kohli elements. He didn’t seem rusty, but he wasn’t entirely in control either. There were shots that left you in awe and shots that had you clenching your teeth. Against Hong Kong, he overcame a slow start and played the perfect foil to Suryakumar Yadav as both batters hit contrasting half-centuries.Dravid emphasised on how, for the team management, it was about looking at Kohli’s performances through a prism that doesn’t always lay all the emphasis on big scores. “For us, it’s not really about looking at how many runs he makes. I know that especially with Virat people get a bit obsessed with his statistics and his numbers.”For us, it’s about the contributions he can make in different phases in the game and what the contribution is. It doesn’t have to be in fifties or hundreds or a stat. Even small contributions mean a lot in T20 cricket, what is the role of a player and what the team needs. Virat is very keen in putting in big performances. Hopefully he can keep doing that in the tournament.”

Romano: Ipswich Town agree deal to sign another "special" star for McKenna

Ipswich Town have agreed another January signing for manager Kieran McKenna, with a move now imminent as per Fabrizio Romano.

Ipswich Town’s January signings so far

The Tractor Boys suffered their heaviest defeat of the Premier League campaign last time out, losing 6-0 against Manchester City at Portman Road.

McKenna admitted it was “painful” for his side, who are now back in the relegation zone alongside fellow promoted sides Leicester City and Southampton.

“Painful game for us. Beaten by a world-class side and they were too good for us. Positives the early parts of the game, but after the first goal they hit top form and top confidence – we weren’t able to find a response.

“They were outstanding and when that’s the case the gulf between us was too much on the day. Once they got the first goal they played really well, our confidence did drop and they caused us a lot of promise individually.

“The players showed some good character in the last 25 minutes. In a difficult moment in the last 20 minutes they regrouped well. We had to take our medicine and work hard to stop Man City.”

Bad news for Morsy: Ipswich fighting to sign a star who's "made of iron"

Ipswich are one of the teams reportedly interested in the former Championship ace.

ByDan Emery Jan 21, 2025

Ipswich have been making winter window additions to give McKenna’s side every chance of securing a second top-flight season, though, with Ben Godfrey joining on loan from Atalanta and Jaden Philogene signing permanently from Aston Villa.

Talking after signing, Philogene told Ipswich’s official website: “I’m excited to be here and I know there are great players in the squad. I just want to play as much as possible. As a player I like to dribble and link up play and provide goals and assists. I’m looking forward to it.”

There were reports that McKenna and Ipswich could make up to five signings this month, should all go to plan, and it looks as if a third incoming has now been agreed.

Ipswich Town agree Julio Enciso deal

Ipswich have been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion attacking midfielder Julio Enciso in recent days, and a move has gathered pace in the last 24 hours.

Taking to X on Tuesday evening, transfer expert Romano revealed that Enciso to Ipswich is a ‘done deal’ on loan until the end of the season, although there is no option to buy included in the transfer.

The 20-year-old can play as an attacking midfielder, second striker or left winger and is valued at a career-high €22m by Transfermarkt.

A Paraguay international, called “special” in the media, has made 57 senior appearances for Brighton, scoring five times and providing six assists in all competitions.

He should provide a versatile attacking option for the remainder of the season, and if Enciso can replicate goals like the one he scored against Manchester City, Ipswich would have made a shrewd loan signing.

ECB and Sky Sports extend English cricket rights deal until end of 2028

New deal to include increase in Blast coverage, and more women’s fixtures than ever before

The ECB and Sky Sports have extended their broadcast partnership by a further four years, until the end of 2028.The new deal, which is set to begin in 2025, includes a commitment to 90 extra hours of cricket each year, and guarantees that the Hundred – the new competition that was a major factor in the last rights cycle for 2020-24 – will continue for at least another five seasons. That hike in live coverage includes a commitment to a 50 percent increase in the number of Vitality Blast fixtures being broadcast, including one game per round being shown free-to-air on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel. The exact details of the new deal’s free-to-air provisions will be confirmed at a later date – the BBC’s current agreement extends until the end of 2024 – although at least two women’s T20 internationals each year will be broadcast on terrestrial TV, as well as eight women’s Hundred matches – an increase of two from the current deal.Sky have also pledged to continue supporting grassroots cricket through the ECB’s Dynamos Cricket programme.Clare Connor, the ECB’s interim chief executive, said: “Sky have been fantastic partners for cricket for over 30 years. Their broadcast coverage is rightly lauded as the best in the world, but more significantly than that we have a shared commitment to growing the sport and investing in more opportunities, not only for people to watch and follow cricket in all its forms, but also to pick up a bat and ball.”Thanks to Sky and the support of other partners, we saw a record 14 million people playing, attending or following cricket in 2021. This year alone, 10,000 children will get the chance to have a free taste of cricket through Sky Dynamos Intros, while many, many more will benefit from facilities and opportunities to play which are only possible because of Sky’s investment. It shows this media rights model is working, and we are very grateful for Sky’s ongoing support.”We have worked closely with the wider game and our First-Class Counties to agree this new deal with Sky, which will see not only more live women’s and men’s cricket on Sky, but also more on free to air TV as well. I would like to place on record our thanks to the First Class County Chairs, to all of the Sky teams involved and to ECB colleagues including Tony Singh and Tom Harrison, who have played the central role in delivering this outstanding result for cricket.”Our shared values and vision with Sky will make cricket accessible to even more people over the coming years and will use the power of sport to inspire the next generation, while safeguarding the wonderful traditions which are such a key part of our game.”Stephen van Rooyen, Sky Sports’ EVP and CEO UK and Europe, added: “This is an exciting time for English cricket and we’re thrilled to be furthering our long and successful partnership with the ECB. Together we will continue to help grow the game while boosting participation in the sport by children from all backgrounds through initiatives like our Dynamos Cricket Intros.”On screen, we will continue to push boundaries in our BAFTA-winning coverage, bringing Sky Sports viewers even more live action from 2025 – including more women’s cricket than ever before – with men’s and women’s England internationals and domestic cricket. Sky’s investment over the last 30 years has contributed to a great deal of success on the pitch, and we hope to be at the forefront of much more to come.”
